Today when I rocked up to SGC it was packed because the Vs Avengers Sealed was today. Doh! I could only see Matt in the crowd of people so we did a few MtG trades and walked down the road to Burger King and met Andrew Wilson along the way. Matt bought me some Onion Rings and when we walked back up I saw some familiar faces in Rhys, David Saw and Gary Buckman. Chris and Kieran waited for Matt and I to arrive back to begin the tournament. I made a last minute trade with Gary to get some Dava Torey and threw them in. The pairings were up and I was paired against Good Ol’ Gen

Round One Vs Gen (Light/Fire Beatdown)

Gen is a nice kid who Ive played numerous times before and is scared to play against me for some reason

In duel one, I drew a not so hot hand. I was able to get a Turn 3 Senatine Jade Tree followed by a Magris. I eventually Coriled and started hitting down on him, he played a Gran Gure when I was about to sweep through for the win. I had to stall a bit going through Magris to finally draw a Marinomancer, I drew Hulcus…Corile…and Pit. I got the pit off the next turn and went through to win the game.

In duel two, I went nuts hitting a PERFECT curve. I hit a Bloody Squito, Hulcus, Magris, Corile and then Dava Torey to make him unable to cope with the amount of creatures, I got a bit scared when he played a swarm of blockers but fortunately for me, I topdecked an Awe to tap them down and win. He didn’t draw a fantastic hand.

I sat back and watched Rhys(2nd in Country) play against Patrick, this was an easy match for Rhys who was surpisingly playing Bone Spider in his deck, that came as a shock to me, but I understand the logic behind it now. Matt and I discussed what would happen if we were to play each other if we would ID or just play it out, we decided when it came forth we would decide. Then “The Chungfather” Tony Chung posted the new round up and we went to the tables

I came up against an unlikely matchup, Mono Blue

Round Two Vs David Saw (Mono Blue with Splash)

In duel one, I was amazed at his first 2 turn drops, Aqua Guard, then 2 more Guards, all I could do was drop mana and Pass. He played a Hulcus to match mine and we were off, it was a race, unfortunately, he had the chump blockers on his side. I dropped a Loco to hit the Lucky Lancer while he Crystal Memory’d to search for an unknown card. The next turn for me meant Marino Time. Marino into play, flipping, Locomotiver, Magris and Holy Awe. Phew, I needed that Awe. The next turn I dropped a Magris passed to David, when he played Lancer, Hitting a double Pit. I targeted the Hulcus and a Guard. The next turn I was sure I needed to remove the blocker because I had a Corile in hand. I Coriled the Lancer and got him down to 3 shields. He played a Revolver Fish and Passed. I dropped Holy Awe and he had to rely on getting a Pit, which he didn’t. He said he wanted to just concede to me because he thinks his deck wasn’t good, he was just toying around.

In duel two, I dropped a Nice curve and mana’d my blockers to go for Speed. It payed off for me a fair bit, because I Awed twice in two turn, to get through his defence, but he was playing HOLY AWE in Mono Blue. I was shocked……he smiled at me and played Lancer on a Blocker, I was happy because he let me win by attacking me and I hit a Proc but he chose a blocker. That let me outswarm him for the win

I went over to see the Vs players playing Sealed, it looked like a good set too. I had a chat with Matt about Gary Buckman because last week his deck caused us problems, he fortunately lost to Rhys this time so we didn’t have to play him. But this round The Top 4 played off. Being Me, Rhys, Matt and Andrew.

Round Three Vs Rhys Gould (4CC Iderspay)

Lets just say I was pretty nervous coming into this because Rhys is 2nd in the country and a fantastic player. Fortunatly I tweaked this deck to beat his certain deck.

In duel one, he swore because he was pretty sure he was gonna lose this game because his hand was so bad. I dropped a Bloody Squito on Turn 2 then a Senatine on Turn 3. He cringed, I knew he had a Pyro, so he dropped Bone Spider, I had to read its text because I didn’t know what it did. I thought it was decent, but I had to drop a Magris then do something special. On turn 4, he played Locomotiver while I smiled. He hit a Dava Torey and was pretty mad, I went full out assault on him and he just scooped when it got too much.

In duel two, he had a feeling he was gonna win when he started, then when he dropped Pyrofighter on Turn 3, he hit a Magris and I was smirking. I dropped a Senatine Jade Tree, suddenly his hopes looked down, he needed Corile which he admitted he didn’t have, I went fast on him, Magris to draw, Corile his Magris, Hulcus and another Hulcus then he got tired of it and needed to get rid of my Awe in hand, which he said he saw. He tried to Loco, but unfortunately, he hit the Pit and I Holy Awed through him to win

I was happy with this and I knew I was playing Matt, we decided to ID straight away and just sat back, Rhys got played down and he wasn’t happy.

Round Four Vs Matt Brotherton (Mirror Match)

ID

We just sat around, then pairings were shouted by Chris.

Round Five Vs Gary Buckman (Water/Light/Fire)

In duel one, I was very scared of the possibility of his deck, he dropped Rikabu and I picked up Hulcus and dropped him, he played a Magris then drew and Swung, then I picked up a Senatine. I stalled him out for really, really long playing 3 Marinomancers and Played 2 Awes and got him down to 0 shields, I thought the game was over but he dropped 3 Pyrofighters and swung right into my Holy Awe, he wasn’t happy.

In match two, the basic same thing happened, but a whole lot quicker

I was given 1st place, with Rhys 2nd and Matt 3rd. I got 3 packs and got bad rares..

Props: Coming 1st
Getting 3 packs
Free Onion Rings and Coke

Slops: Matt for Running out of time against Diaz
