Duel Masters Tourney Reports

Colossal Games, Marietta, GA- Terror In The Swamp-Brandon Schmidt
Colossal Games
Marietta, GA
9-10-05

Hello Pojo readers. I have found a place that has weekly tourney is Merietta, my home town, so I can play nearly every weekend. I won't next week though, because I have a friend's birthday party to go to. Anyways, I was worried because this would be a while new meta and new players. My brother also entered using a Aggro Red/Blue/Black with a lot of triggers and lost in 2nd round. The tournament was double elimination with 10 entrants.

DECK:

[4] Aqua Hulcas
[4] Corile
[3] Illusionary Merfolk
[3] Emeral
[2] Thrash Crawler
[2] Energy Stream
[2] Crystal Memory
[4] Bronze-Arm Tribe
[4] Mana Nexus
[2] Cryptic Totem
[2] Crow Winger
[2] Fighter Dual Fang
[4] Terror Pit
[4] Locomotiver
[2] Lost Soul
[3] Bloody Squito
[2] Ghost Touch

This is a slight variation of Steven Cantrell's BUG deck. I added a few things like Ghost Touch and Fighter Dual Fang. Ok, let's get the first one...

Round One: Thomas

I had the feeling this guy would be good, and I was right. Everyone said he was one of the better players so I was glad I would have some competition. Well I got off to a good start and my control worked like a charm. He was using Water/Dark/Fire with Human Evo. I summoned a good amount of creatures, and then a Cryptic Totem and won the first duel with flying colors.

Well the second duel I got a horrible start and he got Pyrofighter Magnus's out and hit shields, but I used my discard to get rid of them. He kept hitting shields like he HAD to win and he did. This did not make me "lose my mojo" though lol.

I got a lot of good topdecks in this duel. My Locos/Touchs kept him at bay, and I suicided a lot. His Valdios was gonna kill me but a Corile put an end to that and Cryptic Totem dealt him the final blow.

Duels: 2-1 Matches: 1-0

Round Two: Brandon

I was facing a guy with my same name lol. I head heard him talk smack when he defeated my brother, about how he was one of the better players here. He was using a poor Nature/Light deck. I admit he had some skill, but control rules. I Hulcased, Loco, Bronze Armed him to death. Cryptic Totem is god.

Game two went along the same lines. I controlled him with my weaker creatures and waited for Cryptic Totem to finish him off.

Duels: 4-1 Matches: 2-0

Round Three: Luke

Everyone said this guy was the best player here, so I was worried, but pushed that feeling aside. First match I got a perfect hand. Luke was using a good Red/Black/Blue control with Bolmeteus and Twin Cannon. He was a good player but I built up my field and kept his hand low until I drew Cryptic Totem to win the duel

This game wasn't good for me. I didn't pull out the stuff I needed and his Pyrofighter's caused havoc against my shields. I did a good job though but lost this duel, because of a devestaing Lost Soul.

This game was close. I ended up winning because of Thrash Crawler and Squito are god. Cryptic Totem and Fighter Dual Fang just love to smack shields.

Duels: 6-2 Matches:3-0

I was in the semi finals and I got some good trades in. It took a while for everyone to finish up but them I got paired.

I don't remember the name of this kid I played. Actually, I don't remember much because the duels were over in 10 minutes. Fighter Dual Fang and Cryptic Totem finished him off with ease.

FINALS:

Well Luke defeated Thomas, my first round opponent, so it was me and him in the finals. I was worried because I beat him 2-1 in the rounds, but was still confident I could scrap up a win. First duel I got another perfect hand and controlled the field. His hand was low and I hit him with Cryptic Totem and won. I could actually win my first tournament instead of getting 3rd/4th lol.

I did ok this game but lost. Pyrofighter Magnus rules here, I have observed. It also SUCKS! lol. I lost because of those speed attackers. Oh well. Game three.

This game was not good. He Lost Souled me before I could, and screwed up my strategy. He got too mant creatures out and I couldn't handle them. I lost and placed second.

Well I feel I am the second best player at this store, and possibly the best, so I hopefully I can scrap up a few tournament victorys.

PROPS:
Free entry, but prize support was a Block Rockers Starter and packs

Bolmeteus is awesome as a pull

Getting second

Undefeated until finals

Cool trades

It's only 14 miles away

SLOPS:

Losing in finals

Trading my last two Terror Pits for a Bolmeteus, but getting 2 is sweet
