Hi guys! I’m tuning in to bring you guys my first Card of the Day Review! This week, we have a very interesting card…

Q-Tronic Gargantua

Rarity – Rare

Set – Stomp-A-Trons of Invincible Wrath

Civilization – Fire

Type – Survivor

Mana Cost - 6

Abilities

Evolution – Put on one of your Survivors.

Crew Breaker – Survivor (This creature breaks one more shield for each of your other Survivors in the battle zone.)

Flavor Text - A disaster nearly doomed the Survivors. Now disasters merely fuel their fury.

Power – 9000

Civilization and Race

Survivors are a new race that was introduced in the set Survivors of the Megapocalypse. This race has been included in Stomp-A-Trons quite a bit, and they will continue to be included in future sets. The Survivors are very unique because they share their abilities with each other… most of the time. The only bad thing about Survivors is that your deck has to be built around them for these creatures to work. The Fire civilization wasn’t used much before this set, but Stomp-A-Trons of Invincible Wrath has greatly favored this civilization. I think that people are playing Fire a lot more than they used to thanks to this set.

Power and Cost

6 mana for 9000 power? I would take that any day! This creature has what it takes to take down the ever-popular Fighter Dual Fang and Crystal Lancer.  Q-Tronic Gargantua can also get through almost any blocker. This creature’s price is a bargain for its power… and its abilities…

Abilities

Q-Tronic Gargantua’s effect can be a game winner. “This creature breaks one more shield for each of your other Survivors in the battle zone.” Now I know you might think this isn’t THAT great, especially since he doesn’t give this ability to his other Survivor friends. Think about it, if all the other Survivors got the Crew Breaker ability and you had three Survivors on the field, you would have a potential to break 9 shields in one turn. Not that I’m against cheap cards or anything, but that would be incredibly broken. You must also take into consideration that this creature is an Evolution, meaning HE CAN ATTACK RIGHT AWAY! So no matter what, you’ll be getting an attack off. Even if you only have one other survivor in the battle zone, this creature is a Double Breaker, plus he gets that other Survivor’s ability. In the end, it all balances out. His abilities only work with other Survivors though, so if you aren’t running a Survivor deck, this guy is trash.

Final Analysis

Limited – 1.5/5 – There isn’t enough evolution bait for this card to be very effective in this type of game play. Also, it is unlikely that you will get more than one of this card in limited, so trying to make a Survivor deck with him is pointless.

Constructed – 5/5 – I am grading this as if it was in a Survivor deck since that is the only deck he goes in. If you are running a Survivor deck, this is a definite requirement. This guy’s power and abilities make him WELL worth his price.

Q-tronic Gargantua
Type: Creature
Civilization: Fire
Race: Survivor
Mana Cost: Six
Rules Text:

Crew Breaker – Survivor (This creature breaks one more shield for each of your other Survivors in the battle zone.)
Flavor Text:
A disaster nearly doomed the Survivors. Now disasters merely fuel their fury.
Power: 9000
Rarity: Rare
Set: Stompatrons of Invincible Wrath

Power/Cost: Six mana for 9k power is great, even for an evolution creature. The high power makes it immune to all massive killers like Searing Wave and Silphy. Q-tronic Gargantua can destroy 8k creatures like Crystal Lancer and slam other powerful evolutions like Niofa. What’s not to like about a turn six powerhouse?

Civilization/Race: An Evolutions power is directly dependent on what creatures are available to evolve from. In this case, there are quite a few good ones. The Survivor race has tons of support. Most Survivor decks focus on getting as many creatures on the field as possible so they can benefit from each other’s effects. The Civilization of Q-tronic Gargantua is not important because Survivor decks usually include 3-4 colors.

Effects: First let me clear up some confusion regarding Gargantua’s effect. He DOES receive the abilities of all other Survivor creatures. He does NOT give the Crew Breaker ability to other Survivor creatures. Never assume anything in Duel Masters, just do exactly what the card says.
Now that that’s been cleared up, let’s get on with the actual effect. Crew Breaker is a unique ability few creatures have. It can be very effective depending on how many Survivor creatures you have on the field. The goal with Q-tronic Gargantua is to break all 5 shields at once. This is normally very difficult to pull off and requires extreme patience.  Do not be worried if you only get Double or Triple Breaker, because that is still not bad at all.

Limited: 2/5
Evolution creatures normally do not work well in the draft format. This is mainly because of a lack of basic creatures to evolve from. Avoid him here if possible.

Constructed: 4/5
Most Survivor decks at this point will be based around swarming with Q-tronic Gargantua. He is the centerpiece, the foundation, the game-winning move. Good luck to anyone adventurous to give him a shot.

As an added bonus, here is a great example Survivor deck. This was built by Ryoma Echizen and has been tested very thoroughly. Try to find a variant build that suits your own playing style!
