This is the best removal blue has. It's cheap, and it can send an opponent back a turn, or let you punch through when you need to. I like Spiral Gate a whole lot in a fast deck.

In limited, it's just as good.  Just bounce and win.

Spiral Gate

Spiral Gate is OK, but a lot more players seem to prefer Teleportation. The plus side though is that Spiral Gate does have shield trigger. It also only costs two mana.

Worthy. Nothing special, but still worth playing.

I think this card is very undercosted. Too many Red and Black cards have Restrictions when they enter play. Something like Spiral Gate severely sets them back. And heaven forbid it triggers off a Shield Trigger, then its set them back two turns, since they can’t just recast it that turn, and next turn it will have summoning sickness. I am a huge fan of this card and highly recommend it.

The Antman

Hi I was bored so I decided to do another CotD, Spiral Gate =/

Spiral Gate- Common

Hi peoples its The Antman again for another review. This week we have Spiral Gate, which is in the deck that I made for one of pojo's books coming up (I hope Bill accepts...). Anyways on to the review.

Spiral gate is a great card because of its chance for a free bounce or a cheep one card bounce. Yah I know what all of you are saying, "I'd rather play Crimson Hammer instead" well sure you can destroy a week little creature with this, but wouldn't you rather bounce your opponents King Depthcon? or their Explosive Fighter Ucarn? Heck for even more fun Bounce your own Aqua Sniper for more bouncing next turn ^.^, I'd have to say though you will probably use this card more from your hand rather from your shield zone because you will be able to control when you play it, which is a very important thing you have to remember when you play this card. Play it at the wrong time and you could be facing something even worse.

Ratings:
Constructed- 3.5/5 if It didn't have shield trigger, and costed one less I would like it a lot more
Limited- 5/5 Any removal is good

Final Thought- use this card wisely other wise you will regret using your mana for it instead of playing that King Depthcon

Hydromorph Spiral Gate

Spiral Gate is a simple, well designed card that can muck up your opponent’s plans horrible. Bounce is so awesome in this game since it’s so flexible. You can stall, bounce a blocker to bust through to the shields, bounce your own come into play ability creature, and shield trigger to save you the game. All in all, it’s designed to mess up your opponent’s plan, and usually sets them back a turn or so.

The card isn’t overly flashy, and doesn’t do a lot on it’s own, but bounce is just that good in the game right now. If you’re running water, run 4, it’s about that simple.

In limited, awesome trick. Nice Shield Trigger or assistant card. Bounce isn’t as strong here since the decks are more random however. Don’t be afraid to nab it early, but it can go about as late as turn 6 before they get picked off.

Constructed - 4

Limited - 2.5

Otaku Name: Spiral Gate
Type: Spell
Civilization: Water
Cost: 2
Effect#1: Shield Trigger (When this spell is put into your hand from your shield zone, you may caste it immediately at no cost.)
Effect#2: Choose 1 creature in the battle zone and return it to its owner’s hand.
Mana#: 1
Set/Card#: Base Set, 40/110, Common

Attributes: This is a Spell card (duh), and it’s an easy one to cast: just two mana! Not only that, but it’s even a shield trigger: that is never bad (since it only adds one mana to the cost and you can always choose not to So does this mean its effect trash?

Abilities: Not a chance! This is one of the best spells out right now. Send a creature in play back to the hand. Obviously, when using this against your opponent’s creature, it is less effective than killing it outright, but there are some nifty tricks you can pull with it.

Uses/Combinations: The obvious is setting your opponent back a turn-they have to re-summon their creature, wasting mana and having summoning sickness again! Remember, if it comes up as a trigger, it’s cheap enough to save, but if there is something worth hitting, go for it: it’s not like they can re-summon it that turn (once you start attacking, you can’t cast any more spells or summon anything to my knowledge). Also, this is good for taking care of creatures with annoying “when they die” effects. The most obvious would be Mighty Shouter and similar creatures that become mana when they are killed. Trust me, they begin to add up fast. Finally, you can use it to return useful coming into play effect monsters to your hand. Just be careful not to do that for your opponent.

Ratings

Newbie Format: 4.5/5-Just be cautious when confronting Rothus…

Standard: 4/5-Nice and cheap: bounce them away then bust a shield.

Limited: 5/5-Hello! Blue seems a good choice for this format: inexpensive blockers and multiple good shield trigger spells. In Draft, take it even if you aren’t going for Blue-you don’t want your opponent to get it!

Summary

One of the top creature removal cards in the game-but remember, it’s only a set-back when used that way. Its true value comes from versatility.

Stegyman Spiral Gate

I love bounce.

Spiral Gate: Water Spell, 2-Mana, Shield Trigger. Cheap, huh? This card says: Chose one creature in the battle zone and return it to its owner's hand. Very combo-able.

Is this play-worthy? Oh, yeah! I personally play Fire/Water and I run 4 Spiral Gates. First of all, it's a Shield Trigger, and Shield Triggers are awesome. Second of all, it's only 2-Mana! TWO! And you get to chose any creature in the playing field, not just your opponent's creatures. Let's say you played Rothus, the Traveler. You can play Spiral Gate, send Rothus back to your hand, and play it again (provided you have the Mana) and force your opponent to destroy another one of his/her own creatures. In the early game, you can Bounce your opponent's cheap Blockers while your cheap attacks get in some direct shield hits. And, if I haven't already said enough, you can force your opponent to lose a turn if you Bounce a creature back to their hand, since they would have to re-play that creature next turn and it couldn't attack (summoning sickness).

Pros: only 2-Mana, Shield Trigger, ANY creature

Cons: ...seriously

Play this card if you are playing Water at all. In Limited this card mizes, since you can bounce your opponent's "big creatures" and force them back a turn.

(until I see a broken card, like a 4000 attack, Double Breaker, 1-Mana Creature that can attack the turn you play it, I doubt I would give any card a score greater than a 4(minus Limited))

Tournament: 4/5

Limited: 4/5
