Hello again my fellow Kaijudo
Duel Masters! Today we continue our journey through
some of the less seen cards of Shattered Alliances
to herald in the new ones in Invasion Earth! Let's
take a look at Mar-Blurpa the Weaponsmith!
Name: Mar-Blurpa the
Weaponsmith
Civilization: Water/Fire
Type: Creature
Race: Earth Eater/Drakon
Level: 6
Power: 3000
Flavor Text: N/A
Rarity: Rare
Set Number: 62/80 l 9SHA
Abilities:
(This card enters your mana zone tapped.)
Ingenuity- When this creature enters the
battle zone, you may draw a card.
Flame Jet- When this creature enters the
battle zone, banish target enemy creature that has
power 2000 or less.
Mar-Blurpa the Weaponsmith
(Marv from here on out), is one of the new "Battle
Mages" that wizards introduced in this set. Instead
of gaining passive abilities and such, like being
unblockable or being able to attack untapped
creatures, Marv is now able to draw a card and
banish a creature that has 2000 or less power!
Personally I like the draw
ability on this card... I mean, for six mana you
should at least get that ability! His second ability
is where they lose me a bit. If they had made Flame
Jet able to banish a creature with 3000 or less, it
would have been massively more playable! Being able
to only banish a creature with 2000 or less really
limits you to what you can get rid of. Sure, it can
take care of some rush style cards or even cards
like Cyber Scamp, but it's still lacking a bit for
me at least.
All in all, it's a neat combo
ability that immediately replaces a resource. If you
have the mana to play this card and your opponent
has a viable target to hit with Flame Jet, then this
card just gained some serious value.
On a side note, this card is
also a Drakon... so it does slightly crack open the
door for some Evolution plays. Overall though, I
don't really see this guy seeing a ton of play in
the foreseeable future. Give him a shot and if you
can prove me wrong, I'd love to hear about it!
Constructed: 2.25/5.00
(He replaces himself and can potentially banish a
creature. Normally a great combo, but you're not
getting much out of it except a 3000 power creature
in the long run.)
Limited: 3.50/5.00 (Being able to banish some
of those early plays and aggressive cards while
drawing an additional card is pretty good in
limited.)
I hope you enjoyed today's
review! Make sure to check out my article on Alter
Reality Games’ website and until next time my fellow
