Welcome to our Monday edition
of the Card of the Day! I hope you all have enjoyed
your weekend and are looking forward to another
school/work week filled with card reviews and
thoughts of Spring Break! On a side note, in case
you guys didn’t see the Water Firebird Nix and the
new Super Rare Dragon Issyl of the Frozen Wastes,
visit my Twitter account to see the pictures! Now,
let’s get on to our card of the day, Quillspike
Tatsurion!
Name: Quillspike Tatsurion
Civilization: Nature
Type:
Creature
Race: Armored Dragon/Beast Kin
Level: 5
Power: 5000
Flavor Text:
“No one corners me!” -Bob
Rarity:
Super Rare
Set Number:
D1/D1 l 2DED
Abilities:
Spike Armor-
While being attacked, this creature gets +5000
power.
Quillspike Tatsurion is a Level
5, 5000 power creature. He’s fairly balanced in his
stats in that regard but he doesn’t Double Break
which feels a little odd for me personally. This
card is designed to be more
defensive
than anything else. It can get in there and beat
some creatures in the face but generally will only
be beating up on those weaker creatures… (And I
thought the show was against bullying?)
When Tatsurion is tapped after
his attack, it’s going to be difficult for any
creature to overthrow him in terms of raw power.
They are going to need a
huge creature or some kind of spell to take him down, because when
he’s attacked, his power level goes to 10000! So
unless you happen to have a Terror Pit/Root
Trap/Tornado Flame, it’s unlikely you will be taking
him down in battle.
Enter DragonStrike Infernus.
Once this set hits shelves, all bets are off! There
are several creatures who have 10000+ power and
aren’t afraid to throw their weight around!
Quillspike is incredibly outclassed in this set.
I suppose if Quillspike gained
the power when attacking and when being attacked, he
would be more viable in decks but right now, he’s
just a little too outgunned by more effective cards.
Now, on the positive side, like all of our Bobs out
there, he’s an Armored Dragon and Beast Kin, which
opens up possibilities for Evolution! Normally this
card requires you to wait until turn five to play
him, when DragonStrike Infernus comes out; you can
realistically have him out by turn three or four by
combining the new Firebirds with a mana ramp
strategy.
Quillspike isn’t my cup of tea
but being a more defensive card that can set up
evolutions or early aggression plays is pretty good.
I personally prefer using Flamespike Tatsurion on
top of a Prickleback but to each their own. Try it
out and see if it works for you, it may surprise you
next set.
Ratings:
Constructed: 2.75/5.00 (A balanced card with no huge effect. He is
able to defend himself from just about any creature
out now but still can be banished by card effects
and bigger, badder, dragons in the upcoming
DragonStrike Infernus set.)
Limited: 4.50/5.00 (The only way this could be played in Limited is
if you used a sealed deck. That being the case, it
is impossible for anyone to banish him due to his defensive ability
outside of using the one copy of Tornado Flame and
Root Trap that are included in the Bull Rush Deck.)
Make sure to stop back again
tomorrow when we cover another Super Rare card from
the Dojo Edition! Until next time my fellow Kaijudo
Duel Masters, keep calm and game on!
