When Dr Strange enters play you may ready a Marvel Defenders character you control.

We begin the week by looking at the smallest cardboard incarnation of the sorcerer supreme Dr. Strange. As I am sure you already know if you are reading this, the Marvel Defenders focus on a theme of supporting one character to make them into an unstoppable attacking monster. This is primarily done by smaller backup characters using their activate abilities to make one character exceptionally large. Hellcat, Samantha Parrington<> Valkyrie and Tania Belinskia can all use their backup abilities to make one large, double attacking character.

Dr Strange’s effect flows nicely with the mechanics of his team. If you have the initiative on turn 5 he would be your character you would be attacking with anyways, so why not put another Hellcat +2/+2 activation on him to make sure characters get rolled? Anytime in versus there is an effect that readies characters you know you have to keep an eye on it. Depending on how your board is looking on turn 5 and whether or not you have the initiative is critical to how devastating Dr. Strange will be. If you’re bored of typical decks try out a marvel defenders deck packing one man rampages and press the attacks.

Constructed: 3.5 out of 5, He can be game breaking, but on his own he is just a slightly underpowered 5 drop.

Sealed: 3.5 out of 5, depending on what cards you’ve gotten Strange can be a great rare to pull if supported by the cold warrior and hellcat.

Rare

If you start with stats it seems pretty ordinary a little small on the defense but average. With all the back-up abilities that Marvel Defenders get he gets to be pretty abusive. If there playing Syndicate rush Hawkeye, Loud Mouth is just nasty. If you don’t control the initit Hellcat wouldn’t be a bad idea. Now let’s get real nasty with the good Doctor! Ghost Rider for some extra damage with his ability never hurt anyone but your opponent. But then Samantha Parrington some turn based pumps and any card you’ve got get real nasty. Dr. Strange will also benefit from his specific cards like Astral Projection and Eve of Amagotto.

2/5 for sealed if you’re playing Marvel Defenders there should be enough other back-up cards to make him useful but not a game breaker.

3.5/5 in constructed there are a lot of sick combos you can use him for. But there are several other 5 drops for Marvel Defenders that are just as good or better for the cost. But the Dr. Strange will get some play time in a combo deck somewhere.
