Katar Hol<>Hawkman - Eternal Hero

Katar Hol<>Hawkman:

Like Monday's COD, this card also provides a power-up for characters that share the same identity. However, this card's ally ability allows for an additional +1 defense as opposed to attack. Is this better? Well, in terms of a JSA/JLA identity deck he is pretty decent. After all you will now be able to power-up with those extra identity characters you may run across, you can search for him via Prince Khufu, and he has flight and range. Let's not forget his ally trigger which can always come in handy when playing with JLA. Now if you are going to go with a strictly JSA identity this character is not going to be exceptional....after all a power-up is nice but having the ally abilities to boot is where the power is.

On a side note this card is a great addition to a good guys deck. If for some reason you can't come across equipment on turn 4, this card is an excellent alternative to Hawkman.

Ratings:
DCMA constructed - 3.5/5.0 ...This is great card for a variety of decks...
GA constructed - 3.5/5.0 ...see above

Limited - 2.5/5.0 ....This is a decent card simply because it has flight and range..

Card: DCR-014 Katar Hol ~ Hawkman, Eternal Hero
Type: Character
Flight: Yes
Range: Yes
Atk / Def: 8/6
Rarity: Common
Text: Discard a card that shares an identity with an attacker or defender you control ---> Power-up target attacker or defender you control. Ally: Whenever a character you control becomes powered-up, it gets an additional +1 DEF this attack.
Flavor: "I don't have time for pleasantries. Surrender or suffocate."

Let's start with his attack and Defense. At 8/6 he is a normal 4 drop, give or take. The stock stats for someone at that drop being 7/7. This means he has to worry about lower drops hitting his defense, but his attack is enough to push throw on some 5 drops.

The extra kick for him is his ability, getting and giving anyone powered up a +1 def. With two power ups he alone becomes a 10/10. Like Kendra Sanders, anyone with the same ID can power up a character. With her being a 3 drop, and Hol being a 4 drop, it should be easy to get them both on the field at the same time. Making powering up anyone a force to be dealt with.

The flight ant rang on him makes sure you can aim for any spot on the field. The other upside is the lower cost Hawkman that lets you hunt this one out, and the fact that with so many other Hawkman characters out there, you can make sure he always have a way to power up this one.

Playability: 3/5
JSA Deck: 5/5
Draft: 3/5
