Beastly Mage

Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya

Today's card is a mission that could go well with Lightning decks. Whenever one of your Ninjas gets discarded you put a "Book" Coin on this mission. Once it has three or more you can discard it and look for a Jutsu card in your deck. You then reveal it, add it to your hand, and shuffle your deck. It's a pretty simple card for turn 0. On top of that it has no Hand Cost, making it even better for its turn. It's a good backup plan when you think about it. It's good even in Limited if you have one or more Jutsus that are worth the space.

That Guy

A simple story or something more...

Good evening Pojo.com readers, I like to introduce myself before getting to the card review, I am That Guy. Better to knock out the promotional in the beginning of a review then spicing a bunch in between the good stuff...our card breakdown of Tale of the Gallant Jiraya. If you have any comments, deck reviews, or a simple question or two I'm open ears at Djgamer101@aol.com and say "hi Josh"; with any feedback I get to write more and more for you, the awesome dedicated readers and the great staff of Pojo.com...NOW let's analyze and criticize!

This card definitely strikes me in two similar ways: 1) A great opening mission that will no doubt be effective at starting up key combo's and 2) while not as gracious for a top deck in late game, it provides more purpose to your chump blockers, Lightning has never been an element to struggle with utility, being able to effectively count on large plays to shift the tides of a duel; while conflicting this idea because you might wait 3 turns, the reliability of a smart search is worth it. Following in the spirit of utility TTGJ allows for more effective sacrifices from your early ninjas.

Really the best weigh in on this card boils down to an effect that requires the discarding of three cards to retrieve one but in most cases those cards being discarded had little or no expectation to not be discarded, otherwise specific support for any early ninja ( in lightning's case take...Naruto or Rock Lee) would only benefit even further by getting an important jutsu to be used at their disposal. I completely recommend playing this card in any deck requiring specific support or that wants more effective chump blockers....because really, if their going to die in battle let's nab a book counter and sit down for a good story.

Constructed 4/5 ( Used correctly you turning a negative into a positive )

Limited 4/5 ( Come on...there is no hand cost and I'm not seeing a problem with an effective blocker )

Block ?/5 ( To be honest, not very experienced in this format, but grant it your down some good combo's others are available that will work )

Art B+ ( Not much to see but I wonder...pictures worth a 1000 words = more or less than his novel??? )
