Beastly Mage

Zetsu

Sorry about the little hiatus, Naruto fans. I've had one of those weekends.

Anywho, on to the reviews!

This version of Zetsu has a few interesting things. First off, it's a turn 4 with 1 hand cost. For a Jonin that's OK. He's got Ambush, so that makes him better. He's easier to get than his first version (the Cannibal RFG one). He's got the same base stats as the first one, but... notice something? He doesn't have the scratched-out Leaf symbol like the first one!

OK, enough of that...

His effect is what makes him good for Earth Decks. When he's out on the field, your opponent can't put in play ANY Permanent Mission Cards. That could make your opponent either get stuck, or concentrate on getting rid of Zetsu. This effect, of course, isn't valid. The second effect, on the other hand, is valid. You can remove him from play and discard one of your opponent's Permanent Mission cards. He's good for Earth Decks that concentrate on controlling the field as much as possible (and trust me, with the Block format out, I've seen decks like those).

Ratings:

Limited: 2/5 (hand cost kinda hurts him here)
Constructed: 3.5/5
Block: 3.5/5

N. Jolly

N-716 Zetsu [THE MOST UNEXPECTED]

A good week, this should be.  This isn't too exciting, but tomorrow will be awesome with the rage!   RAGE!  And in the meantime, I'm thinking of match ups you'd all like to see on the Sideboard.  Hit me up with suggestions and such.  And I'm trying to get a team up vid with CCG1337, at this point I'm looking for others to comment and give suggestions to make my show better!  It's the MechieSomay channel, and I need your help to make it great(er)! P.S. I did mess up the name of yesterday's card, I apologize barely.

Today's card has some art that I really like, it's our favorite worthless ninja, Zetsu!  He's really done nothing up to this point, but there he is, just chilling, being two people...but let's check out his stats for fun, shall we:

T4 HC1 Earth
Akatsuki | Rogue Ninja | Jonin | Male | Ambush
3/3 2/3 CA: ?
Set 16: Uncommon

This isn't a bad card, but I don't much care for it.  Akatsuki is nice for the upcoming promo, Rogue...doesn't matter, Jonin is generally useful.  Male is nothing, and Ambush is pretty nice, but this card's stats are sub par, especially for a ninja with a hand cost.  I think that is a little overboard, not like the prior Zetsu's stats were great for a T5.  His Combat Attribute means nothing, but for an uncommon, he's not horrible.  But let's check out his effect, shall we:

[THE MOST UNEXPECTED]
Your opponent cannot play any Permanent Mission cards.
Valid: During your Mission Phase, you can remove this Ninja from game. In that case, discard 1 of your opponent's in-play Permanent Mission cards.

We're not at a point where counter missions aren't played, so this first effect isn't horrible, despite it's non valid state.  But at this late a turn, it's hard to think that a lot of counter missions would be played when this card hits the board.  His other effect, while valid, feels way to expensive: Removing him to get rid of a mission?  Really?  If he didn't have the hand cost, it'd be an okay ability.  But dropping a card for him to enter play, losing out of him to get rid of a mission, and you can't even do it on your opponent's turn, which would make this a halfway decent card.

This is the worst of the Akatsuki this set, with Itachi taking #2, and our good friend Tobi standing at the head of the mountain.

Limited: 1.5/5 Just not good...
Constructed: 2/5 It's a sideboard...a bad sideboard, but a sideboard none the less
Block: 1.5/5 Less to hit here makes it a worse cardArt: Can't sleep, Zetsu will eat me...can't sleep, Zetsu will eat me.../5

==============
3/9/10 N-716 Zetsu
==============

Today's card is everyone's favorite ubiquitous Akatsuki member that's a plant, Zetsu. It's been four sets since his last outing so let's see if he has improved since his New (now Old) Chronicle days...

Zetsu
Earth; EC: 4 HC:1
Akatsuki | Rogue Ninja | Jonin | Male | Ambush
Healthy: 3/3 ; Injured: 2/3
Combat Attribute: ?

Well, looking at his Entrance Cost, Hand Cost, and stats, this card has major suckage. A turn 4 with only 3/3 and 2/3 is pretty low and having hand cost is bad as well... Hopefully his effect is redeeming to make the investment.

[The Most Unexpected]
Your opponent cannot play any Permanent Mission cards.
Valid: During your Mission Phase, you can remove this Ninja from game. In that case, discard 1 of your opponent's in-play Permanent Mission cards.

His first effect is similar to Yamato [Cautiousness], however, it only hits Permanent Missions... unfortunately, this is not Valid which sucks since he has decent injured stats. His second effect, on the other hand, is Valid and is pretty nice; You rfg him to discard a Permanent mission. This can be used to remove "A New Squad" or "Symbol of The Proud Clan" and other Permanent Missions that have already been played before he was played.

Compared to the old Zetsu, this card falls a little short IMO. While this one is one drop lower and has semi-decent effects, the old one was a possible 5/5, 4/5 ninja which made up for his weak stats.

Limited: 1/5 Poor stats don't make up for the hand cost
Constructed: 3/5 Good for sideboard as Mission Hate
Block: 3.25/5 Not as good since the other Zetsu is still playable.
