Beastly Mage

Tobi

Today's card is a new splashable, some would say. This version of the Akatsuki's own Good Boy doesn't even have to get on the field to have his effect kick in. All you have to do is move him to the bottom of your deck to draw two cards and discard one. This can be done even at turn 0! It's a great card, even if you don't run Fire or Akatsuki. Problem is that you're giving up one Ninja in your hand for, mainly, one card that could or could not help you. So, I don't really suggest running this guy in threes as some would do, but that's my opinion...

N-717 Tobi [THE MAN OF MYSTERY]

It's opening paragraph time again, but this time I have an issue...is everyone else using my review format?  You know, doing the card's characteristics and then it's effect?  It seems like that has become the uniform way of reviewing cards now.  If so, I'm cool with it, but I'd just like to know if this is on purpose or what...should be getting a new vid up soon (Pojo told me he's link them here!  Yay!), hopefully finishing up my BP trading soon, so this should be a good week.

Today's card is the best card to come out of this set by far.  Normally, I'd give you the card's stats and then it's effect, but this card's stats don't matter.  It could actually hurt you to put on the board and you wouldn't care.  That's not the reason this card is Naruto's first staple, it's its brutally simple effect.  Ladies(?) and gentleman, I give you the effect of Tobi, KING OF NARUTO!!!

[MAN OF MYSTERY]
During your Mission Phase, if this Ninja card is in your hand, you can reveal it to your opponent and move it to the bottom of your Deck. In that case, draw 2 cards and discard 1 card.

This is both a very simple effect, and a very game breaking one.  This card adds to the speed of any deck, with only the cost of a discard (which is easier for decks that don't use a lot of growth ninja), which for some decks can even be helpful.  It's hard to really explain why this card is so good, as just understanding the bare mechanics of the game should be reason enough to enjoy such a powerful cycling engine.  It allows you to see through more of your deck, making you more consistent, which allows you to do what your deck is intended to do more often.

I think you guys may have noticed, but I'm giving lower scores to cards because a lot of the ones we review are average to good, so the 5 that I'm going to give this card is going to be special, as I will hopefully never give another one again.  But a card that has a slot in EVERY DECK EVER! deserves this rating.

Today's card is arguably the best card in Broken Promises, Tobi. His effect makes any and every deck more consistent; he makes you not mulligan your starting hand (unless it REALLY sucks); he allows you to make 47 card decks. Additionally, he combos very well with water with cards like Isarabi and Ninja Info Cards.

There's not really much to say about this card other than he's really good and like a free Shino/Kiba effect. This guy should be x3 in every deck sans Akatsuki decks which should be running old Tobi with Corps in Black.

Dang... this guy is perfect
