J-589 Kamui

Another day, another...review with Mr. N. Jolly.  Today's going to be a good day, so get ready for danger and excitement, live for the now, and fight the whale!

Today's card is Kamui, one of the SRs from FP.  It's a pretty nice card that has gotten a decent amount of praise, but it's also hard to fit into decks.  Let's check out it's stats, shall we:

Kamui:

Cost: Fire l Fire l Fire

Requirements: "Kakashi Hatake" or "Itachi Uchiha"
Target: 1 Ninja
Effect: Place the target in your Battle Reward area face down.

Set 15: Super Rare

This is a card that's both very expensive and has limited users, just like our old friend DFC.  But the problem with this card is it's not quite as game ending as our old friend, DFC.  For three chakra with Itachi or Kakashi you can turn any ninja on board into a BR.  That's pretty good, but the problem is that it has a huge cost for what really amounts to a sniping effect, something Fire can already do with Trigram or M. Sharingan (which has the same user restrictions, but adds another penalty).  Getting a BR may get you closer to the end of the game, but this card is just a bit too expensive and specific for the deck.  It's still a great card, but it's not worth it in most decks.  Once we get Set 16, it's doubtful we'll see this card in play, but for now it's a decent card.

Limited: 1.5/5 Users are what ruin it here, as you probably won't draft one unless you're drafting with a starter and two packs

Constructed: 2.5/5 A pretty average card, nothing broken, but maybe this is a good direction for the game, making more expensive snipe

Block: 2.5/5 Same as constructed, no big changes here

Art: Deidara is going to die...but not today!/5

1/28/10 J-589 Kamui

-------------------

All right, today's card is one of my favorite jutsus from Foretold Prophecy, Kamui. For three fire chakra, your Itachi or Kakashi can snipe a ninja and turn it into a Battle Reward. Very devastating if you pull it off. It can be pulled off as early as turn 0 even with Kakashi (Childhood) although it will cost you four chakras. While doing that may nuke your hand, it means you have 2 BRs and your opponent has an empty field giving you more battle rewards.

This card has a competitor for deck space ,however- Mangekyo Sharingan. Both have Requirements: Kakashi or Itachi and both remove ninjas from the game but in different ways. Here are the pros and cons of the two:

Kamui

Pros:

Free Battle Reward

Snipes

Cons:

3 Fire Chakra

Mangekyo Sharingan

Pros: Searchable via Kakashi [New Technique] Negates Effects Only two fire Chakra

Cons:

User becomes -2/-2

Personally, I prefer Kamui because if I want a two fire removal, I'll play trigrams since it has no side effect.

Limited: 3/5 If you get the Sasuke starter deck, if not, 1/5

Constructed: 4/5 You should be running at least two Kakashi's and Itachi's in fire.

Block: 4/5 The best Kakashi's and Itachi's are block legal
