Beastly Mage

Yamato

Today's card? Yamato!

This guy's pretty good for Earth decks. Normally, Deep Forrest Creation could only be used by The First Hokage. This guy can use any Jutsu the First can. Now, he's not broken. Notice the complete lack of a rank on his characteristics. >.<

On top of being good maindeck material for Tree decks, he's also good sidedeck material when facing OC's and Tailed-Beast Form decks. The "No battle rewards" part in the text really hurts your opponent in that case.

In limited, he could be good, but in constructed, he's a killer! Try it and see.

StormVyper Zera Yamato

For the first Yamato card to be released, you'd normally expect this card to either be a Super Rare or have a bad effect (and in some cases, both); we got the latter. This guy is pretty much just a walking silver bullet to those invincible OC-type ninja, a pretty worthless job seeing as the Rogue List pretty much offed the better part of OC's playability. The only real redeeming factor in this guy is he can rip the First Hokage's powerful jutsu cards, which breathe new life into probably the only Earth deck to ever be taken seriously, Mono-Earth DFC. His stats are nice (most notably the 4 Support) and he's got access to some nice jutsu of his own, on top of the First's Deep Forest Creation, however this guy is pretty much just a placeholder until we get another Yamato. Here's hoping the next one has a more useful first effect.

Master Wang Yamato~Gene of Destiny

Another day, another card and today's is the most hyped and eagerly awaited card to be released with Emerging Alliance, Yamato.

One would think a ninja whose effect's initials spell a divine entity would be a bit more explosive outside of being a part of a squad, but I can't help but feel Yamato choked up on his first card. Not to say I don't mind the awesome 5/4 stats and ability to use the First's jutsus, but everyone say it with me, the fact that this card is dragged down is two words...

No-Rank

This being the biggest reason players have complained about this card, especially when Sai and Yamato's Squad both have Anbu. I have my own opinions of why this is and for the record, he'll never get Jonin rank...EVER! Just wanted to shoot down that hope.

Moving on. The lack of a rank, despite it's confusing disappearance, brings this card down so far and its effect doesn't entirely redeem it either. Anti-OC and TBF is very nice and is to be expected. I particularly enjoy cards whose effects keep with the story and this is no exception. However, unless I'm using a Deep Forest Creation Deck, or a deck that uses his Squad, I'd rather use one of my other turn 5's with a higher rank so they can use jutsus more easily.

Limited: 4/5
Constructed: 3/5
Art: Is it still considered a turtle neck if it covers his jaw? /5

Another late night review from Mr. N. Jolly, your card game idol!

Today we have the first appearance of Yamato, and honestly, I'm not impressed. Let's go over his stats, shall we? Leaf, Male, Mental Power:2, 5/4 3/2 on T5 with Tree combat attribute. I actually really like his combat and support, it's great for the turn, it pretty much creeped Zetsu (Although I like Zetsu more for his Jonin rank and Ambush as well as his Akatsuki characteristic, which has more perks than Leaf as of the moment), and two mental is very respectable for a ninja. What really bums me out is his lack of a rank; a lot of people have sounded off on this issue, saying that if he had Anbu, he's be in the Anbu Rush deck and just crazy. Others have said that giving him Jonin would make him way to splashable in Fire decks and others that have a lot of Jonin dependant jutsu. Even the Squad of him and Naruto has Anbu (Probably so it can't be abused in NVS, but I don't see that happening even if it didn't have a rank), so I don't see why this one didn't. I'm guessing we'll see it in future cards, but for now, he's as unranked as Ranmaru, which is a sad ninja to compare oneself to...

Wow, that was a bit long, but now it's onto his effect. His first one is that while your opponent has an Overflowing Chakra or Tailed Beast Mode on board, they can't get or win any battle rewards. That's really specific, and rare to activate given the meta, as right now it's leaning towards Water/Medical and other non TBM/OC decks. We'll have to wait until the next Rogue List until we see if Lightning will come back, but I don't see TBM/OC being important enough to warrent a card to specifically handle them yet. His second effect is the reason why this card matters to anyone, besides his combat attribute anyway; This ninja can become the user of jutsus with Requirements: The First Hokage. That's right, Earth finally got a second user for their best jutsu, and at a turn earlier too. This is why people care about him, not to mention Four Pillars Jutsu, which is in effect, a second Deep Forest Creation. I'd like it noted while that the effect is valid, it can be negated, which is something this guy will have to watch out for. If Shika [I got your back] swings into him, he'll be just another no rank ninja waiting to get crushed.

Constructed:2.75/5 I don't like it much, but it works very well in it's own deck. I guess I'm rating it this based on what they could have done with Yamato
Limited:2/5 I don't like having to depend on pulling decent jutsu for a ninja who is basically dependant on your jutsu lineup

Art:There's something to the right of him that's incredible, and you'll never know what it is...Never!/5
