Beastly Mage

Kabuto Yakushi

Today's card is another exclusive (which seem to be a lot of water cards). Kabuto Yakushi [Prominent Medical Skill] is pretty good IMO. First off, Ambush, second, a cool effect. During YOUR mission phase, you can discard two Water Chakras to put in play one Water/Chunin Ninja from your discard pile. Granted, right now we've got pretty few of those right now. But, that could change with the new set. Remember, it HAS to be a Chunin. Not higher, not lower. That's kind of a downside, but he does have stats to make up for that (good in Healthy, so-so Injured) plus mental of 2. In limited he could be good just for the stats, but in constructed he could Pwn. Try it and see.

Pojo Preview #2
Kabuto Yakushi
[Prominent Medical Skill]

Anyone see this card and think of Sasori from Fateful Reunion? Well, he has a similar effect, but with a few differences. First off, his target is VERY limited; Water + Chunin symbol. But, Kabuto here puts them in play, unlike Sasori who “deploys” them and uses your deploy for the turn. Sasori’s Toys also go away, whereas Kabuto’s do not. The best use I can see for this card is End of the Demon spam. Use EotD, then use Kabuto to bring your ninja right back, and do it again! However, if I recall correctly, the water card previewed on the podcast was a chunin, so expect to see Kabuto rezzing him. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Kabuto in water decks, and this one might actually make it back into the spot depending on how many water chunnin we see in the future. He has potential, that much is certain. If you are running Kabuto and the Second here, you’ll have to watch your Chakra. Those guys can burn through it quickly, but with Threat of the Tailed Beasts, it shouldn’t be that much of an issue.

Limited: 2/5
Constructed: 3/5. Can’t say much more until we see more of the set.
Matthew Low Friday 7/17 - Kabuto Yakushi [Prominent Medical Skill] - Water - Ninja

Interesting card to say the least. At the cost of two chakra, you can permanent Ghost Panic random Water Chunin. This card can only get better with time, as the Chunin options are limited to the Demon Bros, Mizuki, Tsubaki, St. Simon, and the new one St. Simon in this set. I'm probably missing one, but whatever. None of them scream "game changing" if they were dropped in at random (except the new St. Simon), but field presence is always good, and Kabuto is pretty much two drops on his own until he manages to get injured. It could make End of the Demon very interesting, as you can sacrifice the new St. Simon to it, Ghost Panic, then Kabuto him back into play [feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about this, going on memory of the new St. Simon text].

Top it off with Kabuto having Ambush. While it's a minor plus, it allows players to have two drops almost at will, which is nice in chumping situations.

Decks will have to be built around using him (as in, running Chunins), but I wouldn't count this card out just yet. If anything, it'll be a sleeper until techy game-changing Water Chunin come out.

Constructed: 4.0 out of 5.0 (Great effect, great potential.)
Limited: 2.0 out of 5.0 (Likely never get his effect off.)

N-606 Kabuto Yakushi: Prominent Medical Skill

Unexpected SR review no jutsu! It's like Pojo's best jutsu!

So again, here's another piece of EA with Kabuto's newest form, and it's pretty cool. Let's look at his stats first; 6/3 2/2 is Kakashi awesome, which Water doesn't have a lot of for T5 Jonins, which makes him really good stat wise. He's also Medical, Mental: 2, and has Ambush! That's really awesome, which besides having one less combat and one less mental that Kakashi, only lacking Sharingan Eye (which doesn't matter in Water, as being a Jonin does all he heavy lifting for your jutsu needs) makes him worse that Fire's poster boy for T5.

Now onto his effect: During your mission phase, you can burn two Water Chakra to put a chunin with a Water symbol into play...hark, I hear my End of the Demon calling! This is a sweet effect made worse by a lack of targets. Right now, it only hits the Demon Bros and St. Simon (who I've heard is getting a new form in EA) and none of them are really game changing at the moment. Still, building up board has never been a bad thing, and it's not a deployment, which makes it even better so you can still play something that turn. While right now outside of EOTD there's really no big combos with this, I expect this card to get big soon...heck, I'm probably not even thinking of all the cool stuff you could do with it.

Constructed:3.75/5 Great card, great stats, loads of potential depending on what comes out in EA
Limited:X/5 I don't know all of EA, and I don't care, because I like this card, so it gets an X

Kabuto Yakushi N-606

This Kabuto carries his average stats which is always a cool turn 5 drop with ambush :)

His effect lets you revive any Water Chunin for the cost of 2 "water" chakras which is a nifty strategy with "The End of the Demon" a mission that has lost play but this Kabuto might inspire a new deck around it which is awesome, however with all these RFG's cards his effect loses playability. However, this effect PUTS the ninjas in PLAY so it doesn't waste your deployment and it doesn't remove it from play at the end of the turn which is a good plus. We can say he is the smaller version of Sasori [The Best Toy] but still, I prefer to run other Kabutos over this one and I guess this one would only work in his own deck made around him but other than that unless a lot of good Chunin ninjas pop that are water lemme remind you guys to make this guy playable in a mono water deck or so.

A good approach to water but lacks other support for him but when it does appear he might become a hassle.

Limited: 3.5/5 (Good stats but effect looks hard to shoot off)
Constructed: 3.5/5 (I'd like to leave it inbetween till I see more of the set)
