Beastly Mage

9: 4th Hokage (Lightning Speed)

Ah, the Fourth Hokage...

A lot of people like this guy, and for good reason. The ability to give you an extra battle reward in any status PLUS good stats are just great. Add to that the fact that when injured he gets better stats and he can't be blocked by single-ninja teams... that's just (shall I say it?) Beastly! I actually run this guy and he's worked wonders for me. If you manage to get a copy (since it's not that easy), AND you want to run him, do it! He really is that good.

Ratings:

Limited: 3/5
Constructed: 4/5
Art: A friend of mine asked his for his b-day cake with this photo, so I'll say: Delicious!/5

The Fourth Hokage
[Lightning Speed]

Unlike Sasuke from yesterday, we have not seen a lot of variants to this ninja. It would be the fact that he is dead, but...we still get new versions of the 1st and 2nd Hokage, and the Third...Ok well that doesn't make much sense. Anyway, this card is supposed to be representative of the nickname "The Yellow Flash" that is very fitting for this effect. Any time his team wins a normal battle reward, you get an extra. Decent effect if I do say so myself, especially in comparison to the other version that can heal. His secondary effect is the beastly part though. When injured, your opponent can't throw chump blockers at him! Guess where this card sees play the most? OC and Toad decks. Decks that already are pretty mean once they get going, and this guy just ends it that much faster. It's cool that this card was one of the ones we were waiting for, yet I still think that Bandai owes us that really really great Fourth Hokage. For now though, I'm happy with this one. Want an easy way to get him injured? Use Haku [Camoflauge] or Sasuke [Breaking off the Connection] before he is sent out to attack.

Oh, and I don't care what Mark thinks, the platoon of The Fourth Hokage and Gamabunta FAILS hardcore in comparison to this ninja.

Constructed: 4/5
Limited: 5/5 When run with the Naruto starter.
Art: Much more dynamic than the previous version.
Mylo 4th Hokage (Lightning Speed)

One of my personal favs from 2008, the 4th really knows how to break games wide open. When he wins a normal or outstanding reward, he gets another one. and when he's injured, he can't be blocked by a team of 1. Both effects are valid. If your opponent is forced to split teams, he wins. This alone makes him good. What makes him better is that he is a 5/4 healthy and a 6/5 injured, making him an above average back ninja and abusable in the right team. (Kakashi ES and him = 3-4 a turn!!)

Limited: 5/5
Constructed: 5/5 (If you run lightning, you run him)

The Fourth Hokage [Lightning Speed]

Welcome Pojo'ers!  Today's card of the day is none other than the ninja that goes by Yellow Flash, The Fourth Hokage [Lightning Speed].

Let's start by comparing him with the old Fourth Hokage [Hero of the Village].  That was 8 sets before Lineage was out - 2 years.  The old Fourth healed all of your ninjas (situational).  Semi-decent card.  This one however, gives you an extra battle reward when you win a normal/outstanding BR.  Let's see, 3/10 BR's, that's GOOD.  The other thing is, Yondaime has 4 support healthy now, compared to the old 3 support from Curse of the Sands.  5/4 healthy, 6/5 injured makes him the strongest Hokage of them all up to date.

I can't say Lightning needed this card, because it's hard to fit him in anyway with 3 Jiraiya IotHT taking T6 slot.  However, he does take more preference over HotV majorly, so that's a plus.  The other problem is getting Yondaime injured for his other effect; easier said than done.

Did this card make Lightning raise up from the bottom?  Yes, but not all the way up to the top.  It took a different card to make Lightning Tier 1.  But this card will still see play.

Bottom line, he's better than HotV.

Limited: 3/5 If you make it to T6

Constructed: 3.75/5

The Poo Toucher Today we are going over one of the most influential cards of the year, The Fourth Hokage Lightning Speed.

Wait.....what? This is the 9th best card released in the entire year of 2008??? I'm going to have to disagree.

Let it be known I am in no way saying that this is a bad card. It is heavily stated as a 5/4 6/5 (the best support in this game is, you guessed it the all mighty 4th) it also has 2 game changing effects, the first being that if allowed to win battle rewards, he get's 3! the second being while in injured status (a 5 support) he's only allowed to be blocked by a team with at least 2 ninjas in it.

So why am I saying this does not deserve it's place in the top 10 countdown? There are many, many reasons.

I have been playing lightning competitivly for almost 6 months exclusively, so when it was revealed that they would be releasing this new improved (in japan he did not have the Kiba leading scout ability) 4th Hokage in Lineage of Legends (set 10) I looked around at what I could play him in....he's yet to make an impact in any of my decks. In the past 6 months, I've competitively played mono-lightning Naruto Vs. Sasuke (Pre-Lol) and mon-lightning Naruto OC (Jiraiya Instuctor of the Hidden Technique was a staple, and I feel 4-5 6 drops is far too much) Both have T2 a chunin (NVS won a chunin). A question I ask everyone of you reading this is, how can a card who isn't even effective in his own color be one of the 10 most influencial for the year?

Lightning was also a very aggressive style of play upon release of this ninja, most games not even lasting until turn 6. Add to that the 4th needs to be in injured status to attempt to gain battle rewards (if, that is, if he hits the table, bank on him being blocked) and back ninjas are rarely injured. I can see that on paper, he is a impressive ninja. But while his format was being played (set 10 format) there was just no need for him. Add to that in the very next set, Lightning was given a ninja who was the same turn and 60-70% of the time upon deployment gains you 2 battle rewards (Jiraiya presence) and you have a nice looking card, but a bad card just the same:(

The final point I feel I must stress is the I've yet to see a big event (chunin+) be toped with this ninja in the deck as more than a 1 of. Obviously I am not omipotent, so it could've happened but if it did, people would play this more often. As far as I'm aware, only washingtons chunin was toped with this card, and it was a 1 of (if there are more, please PM me and LMK) and not only that, but with Jiraiya IotHT in the same deck (meaning this was not his best card to play turn 6) and this was in the lineage format (meaning he didn't have acces to our #10 card) and at that point, no one had any idea on what a Naruto OC deck should look like (I played Anko Signs of Orochi in mine XD) now there's just no room for this card.

When you take all of that into account, the only plausible reason why I see this shiner on the eye that is this list, it's because of who the character is (the 4th hokage is a fan favorite) and that's all well and good, he's a decent card, but in no way the 9th best released this year (there are 3 cards I'd gladly put above him that didn't make this list...)

With that, let me re-iterate. This is not a bad card, just not the 9th best.

Constructed: 3 out of 5 (based on the Lineage format and not what's currently available)

Limited: 4 out of 5. He was great in limited because he's so beefy and removal isn't a big thing in there.

Art: 5 out of 5. Love the cape

Until next time, truly yours. The Poo Toucher
N. Jolly 9. The Fourth Hokage-Lightning Speed

Now this is a card that in my opinion wins for "Best Fan Card with a good effect". The Fourth needed a good form badly to make his fanboys happy, and this is where they got it. He's a BR pulling Machine, and he doesn't let anything stand in his way, especially people by themselves. He's an awesome turn 6, and if he was any other element, he'd be even more welcome...problem is, right now lightning's meta stands behind OC Naruto and shouts "Hold the Line!"
That right there is not good, and it really makes me wait for a change to lightning, so that this card can shine. Do I like this card? Yes. Do I think it's good? Yes. Do I think it's one of 2008's finest? No chance. This is a very good card, and I enjoy using it in my hand discard deck, but it's still just another not completely board changing card.

This is a card that if there was some combo to it that allowed you to swing through consistently, it would be incredible, but at this point, it's just an awesome supporter/Rasengan User.

Constructed: 4/5 It's a really good card, but it didn't change this game
Limited: 4/5 Also insane if you can get it.
Art: 5/5 This is what a Hokage should look like...even if they're a girl...

TFH The Fourth Hokage [Lightning Speed]

Continuing the Top 10 countdown, we move to number 9, which in my opinion is more of a fan boy card, but also still very solid.

At number 9, we have the brand new Fourth Hokage[Lightning Speed] straight out of Lineage of the Legends. This card is very popular in Lightning builds, but still isn’t seeing play due to the fact that Lightning is using Jiraiya[Instruction of the Hidden Technique]. Still, Fourth is a very popular card and the most expensive card in terms of price from Lineage of the Legends.

The Fourth Hokage is a very versatile 6 drop that Lightning has in its arsenal. It’s also more of a support ninja, which helps Lightning as they lack support ninjas compared to ninjas that have a lot of combat a la Naruto, Rock Lee, Jiraiya, Might Guy, etc. Moving forward, this enhanced version of Fourth Hokage is superior to the one released in Curse of the Sand. The big first difference that is noticeable is that he has 4 support in his new version in healthy status compared to 3 in his old version. He has two other effects to boot, which improves this version. His first effect states: When you win a normal battle reward or an outstanding battle reward due to this ninjas team, you can win an extra battle reward. Obviously, this is a no brainer for your opponent as they’ll chump block Fourth’s team so you don’t get that extra battle reward. However, with Explosion of the Rasengan coming out in Approaching Wind, you can bounce one ninja to the bottom of the deck, which then allows you to score battle rewards via his effect, which is nice. His effect might also come too late for him to make the huge difference that you want him to make. The effect is great when you have a lot of battle rewards and your opponent having to sacrifice their ninja in order to live. His second effect is what makes his first effect deadly. When The Fourth Hokage is in injured status, his team cannot be blocked by a team of 1 ninja. This is amazing. Now your opponent cannot chump block your Fourth Hokage’s team, so you’re either forcing your opponent to block with their team of 2 ninja or block with their largest team and possibly face the wrath of Lightning’s large arsenal of jutsu. The only problem I see is that Fourth cannot auto-injure himself like he could in his previous version. As usual, The Fourth gets better support and combat while in injured status since he is Naruto’s father after all and it would only make sense. He’s a really solid ninja overall and if you’re looking for a support ninja with some nice effects, the new Fourth Hokage is your man for the job.

Overall, he is seeing play sparingly in Lightning decks, and I hope he can make more of an impact since he is a solid ninja, just not everything that Jiraiya that can recycle jutsu with Naruto on the field is.

My ratings:
Constructed: 4.1/5
Limited: 5/5
Art: 5/5
