Beastly Mage

Inoichi Yamanaka

[As a Father] is the name for this effect. It's quite good. As long as you have Ino in play during your opponent's turn you can discard two Earth chakras, and your opponent skips the organization phase. That means no organizing teams for a while. The effect's valid, so that makes it a bit more playable. Stats are really good too, since he keeps his 3 support in both healthy and injured status. Overall, he's pretty good. Try it and see.

Ratings:

Limited: 3/5
Constructed: 3/5

We continue this week with our parents theme, and today we have Inoichi Yamanaka!

Most of you expected this one to come at the end of the week, but here he is, and as for how hyped he was…he doesn’t disappoint. Inoichi’s effect is essential to locking down your opponent. When you have Ino in play, you can discard 2 earth chakra to force your opponent to skip their organization phase that turn. Let’s say they drop a ninja that you don’t want to have to deal with, like OC Naruto for example. You pay the two earth, and he can’t be put in a team that turn. That gives you free shots at their other ninja while their major beatstick is sitting in a corner all alone. This is a great way to interrupt your opponents plans and keep them on lockdown. Better yet, he’s valid, and still retains his 3 support! Yes please!

Combo Inoichi, Ino, Shino and Gen, and you have two families that specialize in locking your opponent down.

Limited: 4/5
Constructed: 4/5
Art: This may just be me…but it looks like he is trying to rap..or something. Go ninja go ninja go? (I should be shot for a Vanilla Ice reference…)

N-514 Inoichi Yamanaka [As A Father] - Earth - Ninja

And today we see the best [As a Father], though barring opinion. He was already playable as a 4/3 0/3 Ninja, which is great stats as he can play front and back, and injured he's extremely useful, like Kurenai before him. The previous one might as well have been vanilla and would have been better. This one has crazy text.

With Ino he cancels the organization phase at the cost of 2 Earth chakra. What? At first glance, that might be an "oh well." It's actually pretty crazy once you think about what it can mean. Sure you might not use it all that often (though with Earth's many power Missions and lack of power Jutsus...), but even once can throw opponents for a loop.

Say your opponent drops a huge Ninja that you know is going to be put into a team to make it huge and swing and there's nothing you can do about it. Or there's a team that just go their head Ninja injured thanks to you last turn and you don't want that head Ninja replaced. Or you have a Caged Bird in your hand. Or Attack on the Blind Spots. Hmm...

Skip their Organization Phase. No more huge team; that just deployed Ninja must go solo as you don't deploy into a team. That injured Ninja's team probably can't attack now. Caged Bird says, "Target's team also cannot attack this turn, and also can't come out during my turn. And I can abuse it again and again!" That's Captured from DB CCG, or in Naruto terms, Changes in Pairings on steriods. Or, you are screwed, but have a nice day while I own you for BRs. And for Attack on the Blind Spots, you can freeze opponents into a perfect situation.

And he's VALID. Go go go go go... play Ino [Formation] to further shut things down. I think those OC Ninjas are going to have to fly solo if they don't want to be Inoichi-Bird locked.

I'm trying to find something bad to say about him. He only attacks for 4? Who cares. Sure his effect only will work in Earth based decks because of the high cost, but even one use is enough, or even the threat of it is. Great Tempo addition and defense as well.

Sure you can't use the platoon with both Ino and him in play, but think... now you can replace those old Inoichis for a great effect that should come of use... and in many cases, better than the platoon. So chuck the platoon for Chakra and use it for Inoichi's effect. Perfect use.

Limited: 4.6 out of 5 - Back Ninja for 3 all around with no hand cost? Some good.
Constructed: 5 out of 5 - Might be regulated to Earth, but is crazy in Earth. Expect Inoichi to be heavily played.
