Beastly Mage

Fake

Welcome to another week of reviews. This week we'll be reviewing several mission cards. Today's mission is Fake. This mission lets whoever activates a Jutsu and manages to apply it to draw a card. Sounds simple enough. Problem is that the player also has to discard a card. This means that if your hand is empty after you apply the jutsu you're basically getting milled. OUCH! This could be a good card for a hand control deck, or maybe buy you some time since your opponent will probably be thinking a little bit more on activating a Jutsu. Kinda of a tricky card if you ask me.

Ratings:

Limited: 2/5
Constructed: 2/5

Fake.

A turn 2 permanent lightning mission with the effect, each time a ninja uses a justu and its effect is applied succesfully, the player who controls that ninja draws 1 card and discards 1 card from their hand.  First of all, any mission that is as likely to help your opponent as it is you is likely bad(Gathering Herbs anyone?).  Now, people like to draw cards, even at the expense of giving 1 up in return, look at the new Kabuto from the starter decks.  However, the timing on this card, and the fact that you discard a card afterward instead of returning it to the deck, and that this works for your opponent as well, don't seem to mesh well together.  I guess if you know you have a justu on the top of your deck, and you need it to finish off the game, this could work for you.  However, you have to play a jutsu in the first place to get that jutsu, and if the jutsu is negated or fizzles, you don't get to draw.  Just far too many drawbacks and restrictions to make this card good.  It chose the right element, because lightning has a decent amount of early cheap jutsus, but still, this card just isn't worth it, unless you like it for some odd reason.

Constructed:2/5 (It could have a use, but I don't like it.)

Limited:2/5 (Could be of better use here, since there isn't much negation in limited, and you need all the advantage you can get, but again, your opponent can use it as well.)
