Walrein/Castform

7.13.04  Today, we take a look at a player who is just about fed up with Blaziken decks! Let's help him beat ole Bex into oblivion!
"Pokemon (17):

4 Spheal
2 Sealeo
4 Walrein
2 Lapras ex
2 Castform Water
3 Relicanth

Trainers (26):

3 Briney's Compassion
3 Forest Guardian
2 Island Cave
3 Oracle
3 Professor Oak's Research
2 Town Volunteers
3 Strength sharm
3 Switch
4 Rare Candy

Energy (17):

17 Water
The main idea is to get out Walrein ASAP and start Sheer Colding and Crush Drawing. Lapras EX and Relicanth allow for some status support, and Rain Castform is for card drawing.
If you feel another color/pokemon family would be suitable for the main goal of killing the unholy cheese beast of flame, please feel free to make any changes.
Good lord, I miss Rain Dance…."
Lol, first off, most Walrein variants are now centered around Milotic. However, for the sake of this article being interesting, I won't switch to that. Just take out the cards I note in order to build that deck, as Walrein variants, despite having huge differences between one-another, work generally the same.
"4 Spheal
2 Sealeo
4 Walrein
2 Lapras ex
2 Castform Water
3 Relicanth"

Hmmm, not too bad. However, in this format, people play lots of switching cards, and your odds of the initial sleep are 50/50. They get greater from there, but Relicanth is just a waste of bench space in the long run. Take him out. Lapras ex, despite being immune to Blaziken ex's Volcanic Ash, is not a good card to use, really. Remove him too.

Now, it's time to have a little fun with the Castforms! ^________^

-2 Lapras ex
-3 Relicanth
+4 Dunsparce
+2 Sealeo
+1 Castform Rain
+3 Castform Snow-Cloud

"3 Briney's Compassion
3 Forest Guardian
2 Island Cave
3 Oracle
3 Professor Oak's Research
2 Town Volunteers
3 Strength sharm
3 Switch
4 Rare Candy"

First problem I notice is that, putting it bluntly, your draw engine is bad. I'll be adding in Stephen's and TV Reporters to make up for your lack of straight draw. Now, to go with the fun Castform theme, remove the Island Caves for Magnetic Storms. If you go for Walrein/Milotic, then remove the Caves for Desert Ruins, since you play no ex Pokemon. Last of all, Crystal Shard is a must to survive against Sceptile or Rayquaza.

-3 Forest Guardian
-1 Town Volunteers
-4 Rare Candy
-3 Briney's Compassion
-1 Strength Charm
-2 Switch
-2 Island Cave
+1 Oracle
+2 Magnetic Storm
+3 Stephen's Advice
+3 TV Reporter
+2 Crystal Shard

Energy is fine, so I won't even touch ground there.

This is the finished deck fix:

Pokemon (22):
4 Dunsparce
4 Spheal
4 Sealeo
4 Walrein
3 Rain Castform
3 Snow-Cloud Castform

Trainers (21):
4 Oracle
3 Stephen's Advice
3 TV Reporter
3 Professor Oak's Research
2 Crystal Shad
2 Strength Charm
2 Magnetic Storm
1 Switch
1 Town Volunteers

Energy (17):
17 Water

Best of luck with the deck! As a quick reminder, if you want to switch to the Milotic variant:
-6 Castforms
-2 Magnetic Storm
-2 Strength Charm
+3 Desert Ruins
+3 Feebas
+3 Milotic
+1 Warp Point

Best of luck with your Walrein deck!

Sincerely,
~Patriarch
