I sure hope you’ve been collecting all of those worthless point cards in your booster packs. They were about as useful as toilet paper when they were first introduced. No, scratch that, toilet paper was more useful. But nowadays, these points actually do serve a purpose. Getting this week’s cards.

X-Men Assemble
Age of Apocalypse
Plot Twist/1
Ongoing: Whenever an X-Men character you control recovers, put a +1 / +1 counter on it.

So, with those point cards, you can get a bunch of promos you can’t get elsewhere. And right now, it’s mainly focused on the Age of Apocalypse storyline. In fact, this artwork here is the cover-art for one of those comic books.

With this card, it’s special. Every time an X-Men character you control recovers, it gets a little bonus counter. Not too bad, since X-Men is all about recovery. Which means there are two ways this card can be played. If you just splash it into an X-Men deck, you probably won’t see as much benefit as you’d like it to produce. If you base an entire deck around X-Men Assemble and get multiple copies of them into play, then something like a permanent +3 / +3 gain every single turn seems very beneficial. It’s just like the saying goes, what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.

Constructed: 3/5

If only I didn’t have to wait 4 to 6 weeks…

Ongoing: Whenever an X-Men character you control recovers, put a +1/+1 counter on it.

Hello, wow.  This is an awsome promo card... wish I'd been saving up my points...  Um... no combos or anything here that I can think of.  Just straight up "My X-Men get bigger.  Deal with it".

Sealed: N/A  Can't get it in sealed.

Constructed: 4/5  If you are playing an X-Men deck and have access to these bad boys, you wanna play them.
jajais4u This card is broke. Seriously. It's broke. Whenever an X-Men character recovers, put a counter on it. Above and Below, ftw? Harry's Hideaway? Phoenix Rising? (These things are silver, mind you) I'll be honest, I didn't think that this was a real card until I saw it on the points store. I just refused to accept it as truth. Oh, by the way, the do stack.

Constructed - 5.0

X-Men Assemble: Plot Twist: Cost 1:

Ongoing: Whenever an X-Men character you control recovers, put a +1 / +1 counter on it.

Well, I wasn’t going to review this, but I’m now I’m going to have to. Because everyone else is wrong…dead wrong…

Hi I’m Sheriff John Burnell and welcome to America’s Dumbest Criminal Cop Car Chase Shot Em’ Up Police Force World…

Well not really.

Anyways before a character recovers it has to be stunned, so you take damage.

Everyone else forgot that.

Yeah X-men may have plenty of recovery tricks. But still being stunned means you take damage. And taking damage is bad.

Then there’s the fact that any strategy relying on this card plus recovery effects is bound to be slow. And hey, guess what? Slow is bad too.

Plus, due to the vast amount of “KO stunned character” effects in the game being stunned is often fatal. And fatal is very, very bad indeed.

And I’m right. Cause I’m Si.

So maybe you get stunned, recover, attack the next turn, recover and keep getting a little bit stronger. Big deal. +1/+1 isn’t exactly a day at the races. It’s not going to take down Galactus, it’s not going to smack Apocalypse upside the head and it’s not going to win you the game.

There are better things to spend your UDE points on.

No, not Wolverine.

I don’t care how much you like Wolverine.

Just no.

Sealed: n/a

Constructed: 3
