Chidori
R&R

#6 of 2007

Card Number: J-131

Review Date: 01.25.08

Average Card Rating

Constructed: 4.50
Limited: 3.75

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale. 1 being the worst. 3 = average. 5 is the highest rating.

The First Hokage

Chidori[Revenge and Rebirth]

Today we look at Chidori. Not much of an introduction will be needed to review this card. Basically, it gives +5/0 to Sasuke and Kakashi, and then if you win a victory or an outstanding victory, give 1 additional damage to every ninjas battling against the target. Basically, it's just the user of the Jutsu.

Anyways, this card is one of the cards that made Fire as broken and as strong as it was from February through the end of September. The fact there was a turn 1 Sasuke that could use the Jutsu for no chakra cost at all was amazing.
This card gave you an early threat when Sasuke[Beyond the Limits] was on the field. Even, if you didn't have the Chidori in your hand it was a good bluff, so your opponent wouldn't go all out in the early game, or when you had the Chidori and they went all out, you punished them by playing a no cost Chidori that made Sasuke an 8 and possibly more with the support ninjas, and with that you basically wiped off your opponent's team. Shortly after that punishing blow, you would win the game. Even if you didn't win the game, Fire always had options.

Regardless, this Chidori has changed the meta for the majority of last year and why it made it into one of the top spots. The fact that this Chidori sells for at least $30 on the secondary market must mean something as Naruto cards aren't all that expensive. I also really love the art, and the effect is definitely really good. I played Mono Fire Freedori when R&R hit, and believe me, it was really amazing.

My Ratings:

Constructed: 4.5/5 Fire has lost some of its power due to some errata
Limited: 3/5 Need a Sasuke and a Chidori
Art: 4.4/5

Underbheit Henchman

Chidori (R&R)

Highly prized by those who own it, and sought after by those who don't, Chidori from R/R is one of the best jutsu to be released in 2007 and #6 on our countdown.

After the Release of R&R it fueled the deck we all know as Freedori into the top tier of competitive decks. For constructed tournaments, this card was brutal. It was only dethroned after the errata of 2 of the major cards in the deck's construction. Even with the set backs, it is still seeing plenty of playtime as it’s requirements are fairly easy to come by. Even though it has fallen out of the top tier, in a dedicated Freedori deck it is still a force to be reckoned with.

Limited it's still a great card considering every set releases several Sasuke Uchihas and Kakashi. The cost is fairly easy to come by and it's not completely outrageous to play it even without Sasuke [Beyond the Limit] which eliminates it's cost completely.

Pre-Errata and before QfP this card would have been likely been a 5 in both categories. But due to the weakening of Fire draw power and other considerably easier to come by Chidori I rate it a 4.5/5.

Constructed: 4.5/5
Limited: 4.5/5
