The
Pokemon Mall Tour Visits Chicago - April 1999 (p. 2)

Behind Amy, is the Wizards Trading Card Learning Center. Don't know how
to play? Get a pass to get into the Trading Center. They have learning mats on
all the tables, ready to play decks, and many instructors. This section got a
thumbs up from the pojo. |
Meet Tyler Grund (right - seated). Tyler is one of the best "Killer
Deck - Tourney Report" writers out there. He drove up from St. Louis, MO,
to take on all challengers. He was kickin' booty all day long. Many kids
who watched him play saw a master at work. Think Farfetch'd is a stupid Trading Card
... thing again! Visit the Trading Card section of our site, and look for some of
Tyler's Tournament Reports. Recommended Reading for those into the Trading Card
Game. |

The Playmats on these tables were wicked cool. Everyone who showed up at
the event was given 1/2 a free playmat (heavy - thick paper type). The ones on the
tables were heavy vinyl. Where can I buy one of these durable puppies?? If
you go to one of these events, try to get two playmats, tape them together, and laminate
that puppy for a killer play mat. |
Not all Pokaholics are young kids, most are teenagers and adults. Brian
and Amy played a great game here. Brian had some wicked cool import cards from
Japan. It was hard for Brian to concentrate, when so many fans wanted to see his
collection of imported cards. There weren't nearly enough open playing
tables for folks to play. Many people pulled up a cold chunk a floor tile to take
each other on. |

All in all it was a great day, as long as you weren't waiting in
line for booster packs. That line was way too long and frustrating. We stayed
away from there. Also Wizards gave everyone that came a free card ... Fighting
Energy. It would have been cool if they gave everyone a Pikachu, which is
what most kids really want. Or given a special promo card, with a special sybmol
recognizing you for attending the event like they do at Magic: The Gathering
tournies. But hey, we don't have a right to complain too much, the day didn't
cost us a penny (well except for that Japanese Import card I bought ;)
