bioProfessor Gilderoy Lockhart, Defense Against the Dark Arts
teacher in the second book, is a very famous author with
wavy blond hair and bright blue eyes, especially popular
with witches because of his good looks. He usually wears
robes of bright colors, such as turquoise, lurid pink, and
forget-me-not blue. One of his favorite things to do is
remind people about his accomplishments, which is usually
summed up as "Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin,
Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense
League, and five-time winner of Witch Weekly's Most-Charming-Smile
Award." He thinks very highly of himself,
believing that he is responsible for all the good things
that happen, and saying that he is capable of doing almost
anything possible. These lies are backed up by his books,
usually with cute titles such as "Travels with
Trolls" and "Year of the Yeti", which are
stories of amazing things that other witches and wizards
have accomplished, now under Memory Charms which made them
forget they had done it, and for which he has taken full
credit for. He is exceptionally good at Memory Charms,
though this ends up being his downfall when he tries to
perform one with Ron Weasley's broken wand, which
backfires and hits him instead. It leaves his helplessly
disoriented, and he is forced to retire from his position.
