Pojo's Pokemon Card of the Day

TM Rhydon - team

Date Reviewed: 9.22.04

Ratings & Reviews below

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating.

TM's Rhydon (Holo)

Modified 2/5 - Not horrible by any means, but compared to TM's Groundon, this card is so weak.

You're investing a Stage 1 to do the same thing as the Basic can do. It's much easier to get 4 Team Magma Basics out.

Limited 4/5 - Definitely a great card to win with.

TM Rhydon (Holo)

Yum. I REALLY like this card.  ;x   I invented a deck with a 3-3 line of this, 3-3 HL Lanturn, and 2-2 Raticate, and it pwns nearly everything except magma and Monarchy.

Regardless, the 1st attack and the dual types of this Poke make it really nice. It’s kind of like a muddy pebble that’s really a ruby, you just can’t see it. With his 1st attack, you can do 80 dmg for 2 dark energies to anything weak to fighting. Not too shabby IMHO. The 2nd attack is random, but use it against high HP fighting or dark weak pokes (does nice with magma nrg and DRE). 90 HP is what outshines Medicham, Marowak etc. Quaza with a multi and fire does not kill it. Lanturn with DRE does not kill it. Many other yummy things too. Plus it’s weak to grass XD . Gotta like this card, ya just have to. Stfu YJ, jermy, pooka, magnechu, Pablo, Drew, AJ, Sean, Fubu, Levi, Pwnda, Nike, Truk, Joner, Matt, it’s a good card AND ALL OF YOU KNOW IT  ;/  .

^^^ The BOTTOM LINE.

Johnny Blaze
TM Rhydon – Please use TM Groudon if you are running a Team Magma deck. It has more HP and is much more efficient for its attack’s cost. The only downside to TM Groudon is that there needs to be 4 Team Magma Pokemon in play in order for it to attack. If you are a Rhydon lover then use the Holo one that we are reviewing today. Like the majority of TM Pokemon, TM Rhydon is dual type of Darkness/Fighting.

It’s Magma Jab is not affected by Resistance so for 1D+1C it is doing a solid 30. If Team Aqua were popular then its 2nd Attack Shoot down could do 50 or 60 if it had Darkness attached to it and auto confusion if it attacks a Pokemon with Team Aqua in its name.

Unlimited: 1/5 – Not very useful here. Too energy intensive and its weakness to grass hurts against Scyther.

Modified: 2/5 – Like I said before if you plan on running a Team Magma deck use TM Groudon over Rhydon. Groudon is much more powerful and has higher HP.

Limited: 4/5 – Very very useful in Limited. As half the decks you face are going to be Team Aqua.

Pokepop
Team Magma Rhydon is a poor offering from the TM/TA set. The art is not as interesting as many of the cards (looking like "The Pillsbury Dough-
Rhydon") and it just isn't worth playing either. It is basically an evolved TM Groudon that has less flexibility in it's first attack ,can do less damage from it's second attack and has less Hit Points. There is no reason to use this card at all.

Unlimited: Not even worth considering. 1/5

Modified: You can consider it, but the answer had better be no. 1.5/5

Limited: With 3 different Rhyhorns in the set, a Grass Weakness that gives it limited exposure, and an attack that auto confuses half of the opponents that you will be facing (Team Aqua decks), it's much better here. You will run into problems with it's first attack, though, since it requires Darkness energy and only Magma energy will fit the bill.
Overall, I'd give it a 3 here. There are still better choices. 3/5
