Yakumo

Description: Ruler of Mekai (Netherworld), Yakumo and KIng Enma fought several millennia ago over the right to rule the human world. It is not known how Enma overcame Yakumo and his armies, but they were defeated and Mekai was destroyed. In order to resurrect his world, Yakumo and his three Demon Gods come to Earth to open the elemental sites. Once done, all Yakumo needs is his power sphere that King Enma stole from him to regain control over Mekai, and all other worlds as well.
 

Yanasigawa Mitsunari

Description:  One of the humans who gained powers from the Makai door, Yanasigawa's special power is to mimic those whom he touches. By touching anyone, he can take on their appearance, voice, even memories. He is one of the three who challenge Yusuke and the others to test their abilities and teach them that no matter how strong they may be, they need to use their heads sometimes above brute strength.

Description: True form of Garuga, Yasha is a wanted criminal in Spirit World who betrays Koashura and takes the Golden Seal for himself. His powers are amazing, and he even has the ability to absorb his opponents ki attacks and fire them back at the user.
 

Yoko Kurama

Alias: Kurama
Description: True form of Kuruma, Yoko is over 1000 years old and possesses legendary power and strength. He was believed to have been killed when attempting to steal from a powerful demon, but escaped into the human realm, hiding within a human woman as her child.
 

Yomi

Description: One of the three rulers of Makai, Yomi is the most technology driven and has even created a city like the ones on Earth. He is also a former comrade of Yoko Kurama's, but was brash and impulsive. When raiding a castle one day, he and his men were attacked by a demon assassin. The assassin succeeded in killing all of Yomi's men, and took out Yomi's eyes, blinding him forever. To overcome this weakness, Yomi grew four new ears to use as his eyes. When achieving the S class, and becoming a ruler of Makai, Yomi captured the demon who took his sight and tortured him mercilessly. In the Makai Tournament, Yomi fights against Yusuke in the final battle of the series. 
 

Yukina

Description: An Ice apparition, Yukina can freeze her surroundings and her tears turn into rare pearls. Due to this unique ability, Yukina is kidnapped by evil men who wish to sell her pearl tears on the black market for billions of yen each. Due to the horrible nature of her imprisonment, Koenma assigns Yusuke the task of rescuing her. Kuwabara falls in love with Yukina on first sight and joins Yusuke in the name of love. Yukina also possesses incredible healing powers and is the half-sister of Hiei.
 

Yusuke Urameshi

Description: Juvenile student at Sarayashiki Junoir High, Yusuke Urameshi is quick tempered, rude, ill-mannered, and an all around thug. However, despite his tough guy persona, Yusuke is a good person who cares about those around him, even if he never acts that way. He is tragically killed when saving a little boy from getting hit by a car, only to find out that his death was unplanned and meaningless (as the boy was to survive without a scratch, saved by the ball he was holding). To fix the mistake, Yusuke is given a chance to return to life by undergoing a trial that will restore his life or destroy it permanently. Of course, being the main character, Yusuke does succeed in the trial and comes back to life, only to be given the job of spirit detective of the human realm. Armed with a few spirit items and his Spirit Gun, Yusuke must maintain peace in the human realm and arrest the demons who threaten it.

Description:  Student at Kurama's school, Kaito is one of the humans who gained powers due to the Makai door opening. His ability is taboo, basically within his territory he can steal the soul of whoever speaks whatever word or sound he considers taboo. He is also a genius, second best student in his school next to Kurama.
