Hello Pojo Fans,

Vaalmonica Followed Rhythm is the only trap we are reviewing from the archetype, and, like the other Spell/Trap cards, you’ve got two effects.

Normal Trap that can’t be activated unless you have a Vaalmonica on the field rather than the Pendulum Zone. If you happen to control a Vaalmonica Link Monster you get to apply both effects instead of just one. Destroying a Spell/Trap is always good spot removal, even if it is on a trap, followed up by popping a monster back to the hand from the field. Two good removal effects that cost you nothing in the grand scheme of things, deal with opponent’s cards, and will trigger getting Resource Counters in your Pendulum Zone because of the LP gain/loss that each effect has with it. You won’t in total lose or gain any LP if you fire off both effects, and even if you only get one effect you aren’t losing anything significant. LP gain/loss isn’t a key anymore in the game, and while you have to manage it somewhat, most of the time it just is there until you or your opponent hit the danger zone of under 2000LP.

You want to get both effects off, and to do that you’ll need a Vaalmonica Link Monster, and that requires you to Link Summon it using Resource Counters in addition to the monster you link away for it. So getting these effects in sequence does require a little set up, but the archetype makes you gain/lose LP with ease. Just make sure you get both off because a 2-for-1 is better than a 1-for-1.

From Spell to Trap, we got some removal for Vaalmonica with Vaalmonica Followed Rhythm.

Followed Rhythm is a Normal Trap that lets you activate one of two effects, but you must control a Vaalmonica Monster Card to activate and to resolve this effect and if you control a Vaalmonica Link, you get to apply both effects in sequence. The first lets you gain 500 LP and then you can destroy a Spell/Trap on the field and the other makes you take 500 damage and then you can return a monster on the field to the hand. It’s at least some form of searchable disruption for the archetype, which most of the time the bouncing a monster to the hand would be more disruptive. Having the option to remove a Spell/Trap is good at least to get rid of a Field Spell that would search on resolution, a floodgate, or a mystery Set card. If you can get to the Links to use both effects, you can start to snowball to a more advantageous position for you. It stings the Vaalmonica monsters aren’t Quick Effects to copy the Spell and Trap effects so you could maybe bounce 2 monsters on the opponent’s turn or remove 2 Spells or Traps. I do also wish the ability to use both effects of Vaalmonica cards were on the Spells as well of the Traps, but I guess that might be too broken for some of them. Either way, Followed Rhythm is probably the better Trap in the archetype and the one to search for removal. If you had to pick between the Traps, pick this one.

Speaking of Traps, today’s card is Vaalmonica Followed Rhythm, one of two Traps in the deck. Followed Rhythm is a Normal Trap and continues the pattern of Vaalmonica backrow, being usable only once per turn and having an LP gain effect and damage effect. Unlike the Quick-Play Spells, the restrictions are a bit different; Followed Rhythm and Vaalmonica Chosen Melody can only be activated if you control a Vaalmonica monster card (so the Pendulum Scales don’t count), though if you control a Vaalmonica Link monster, you can activate both effects in sequence. Followed Rhytm’s LP gain effect will let you gain 500 LP then destroy one Spell or Trap on the field while the other will make you take 500 damage to return one monster on the field to the hand. It’s more flexible than Chosen Melody as disruption, since you can stop Continuous Spells and Field Spells and, if you have one of their bosses fielded, you can bounce a monster as well. Of course, Followed Rhythm will also help build Resonance Counters, and triggering their Field Spell’s steal effect can give even more disruption. It’s overall stronger than Chosen Melody, and one of the bosses can even copy a Trap for even more disruption. Given how searchable and potentially bricky Followed Rhythm is, you should probably just run one copy.

+Flexible effects for disruption
+Helps build Resonance Counters to trigger Vaalmonica, the Agathokakological Voice
-Useless if you don’t have a Vaalmonica monster fielded

Art: 3/5 I know it’s one of the bosses, but it’s just a bit plain.
