Everybody likes treasure. There’s never been any shortage of people who wanted to become pirates or go a-viking; really there still isn’t now, even though it has become a lot harder to do so. I think this is probably not the fastest way to get either treasure tokens specifically, or a trove of artifacts just in general, and the downside is pretty challenging, especially in multiplayer games. I do like, though, that it is consistent and hard to interact with in the vein of Phyrexian Arena. It’s more common to see people devoting deck space to drawing extra, even random, cards, but really it’s also possible to draw blanks with that, and there are situations when you can do a lot with just one more mana every turn. I know I always mention Warp World, but a steady stream of permanents that also generate mana is actually pretty good with Warp World.

Red has a history of high risk – high reward cards such as Mana Barbs and Furnace of Rath. Obviously you won’t be playing this card if you don’t have board advantage, meaning it’s a “win more” card. In multiplayer games you better have a solid defence, which isn’t red’s forte. The first ability isn’t strictly a negative either, Rage Nimbus has won me a few games by disrupting my opponents board. The main issue with this card is the mana cost. On turn four most red decks would prefer draw power over mana, meaning you’ll only want to use this card in Treasure decks.

Getting an extra Treasure token each turn, with one coming up front, is pretty nice, and the forced Provoke effect is one you can spin to your advantage (by compelling opponents into attacks they don’t want to make, like into your alluring first striker). I feel like Trove of Temptation would be much better at 3 mana, since the jump from 3 to 5 is often more impactful than the jump from 4 to 6. It also is a risky play when you’re behind, as being attacked each turn can add up. If you’re ahead, though, this can do a great job at keeping you there, forcing ill-advised attacks and amassing your mana stockpiles to ludicrous levels. This is a high-risk, high-reward permanent that can help you snowball…and cost you the game if you’re in topdeck mode.
