The cards that relate to the werewolf pack leader Tovolar tend to play up his, and his pack’s, aggression and violence, and the Huntmaster is among the most devastating of those. Coming along with two wolf tokens is great for overwhelming opponents, and his night side lets you basically kill anything at will in a properly constructed deck. It feels especially unfair with repeatable token generation. It’s an ideal card for the wolf/werewolf deck in pretty much every way – and I love how quickly that deck’s prospects in larger casual formats have gone from “few cards to choose from” to “options for multiple different styles”.

Tovolar’s Huntmaster is certainly a threatening “top end of the curve” for Werewolves; 10/10 worth of stats is quite a nice deal for six mana if it’s day, and he turns into 11/11 worth of stats and spot removal by using your Wolves and Werewolves to remove throats once night falls. This is a very brutal card in Limited, particularly if you can use it to break through board states, and it definitely serves as the Werewolf deck’s curve-topper. It’s seeing some play in Standard in decks that want to grind games out a bit better, and while its prospects will wax and wane based on format speed, this is quite a nasty weapon if you can support it.

Tovolar’s Huntmaster

Love this card! It helped me win two games in a draft by itself it’s a solid piece to any green and/or werewolf strategy. For starters, six mana for 3 creatures is a bargain let alone for a 6/6 and two 2/2’s. If you happen to cast while it’s night you get the same goodies but instead of a 6/6 you get a 7/7! Nightbound is extra good because now your wolves can fight your opponents creatures!

Very little to no drawbacks for this card. It’s a powerhouse in a werewolf tribal commander deck, it’s a build around in limited, casual players will have fun with it and the three creatures for six mana is going to keep your opponents on their toes in multiplayer.
Constructed however will be determined by what is printed in Crimson Vow. It’s a very strong green creature as well as a great werewolf but werewolf tribal hasn’t been thoroughly tested. Gruul werewolves does account for less than 1% of the meta but this card isn’t in the deck sadly. Same goes for Temur/Jund aggro. Time will tell for constricted.

Constructed 3/5
Casual 4/5
Limited 5/5
Multiplayer 4/5
Commander 4/5
