Did you know that there was a time when some people didn’t like the “unless the opponent pays X” counterspells because they were too conditional? And yes, this included Power Sink. As though you’d just throw one at an opposing spell when you knew it was a key card and they had exactly the amount of open mana corresponding to your value of X. A card like Thassa’s Intervention is very good at catching people out with its second mode, and its first isn’t too bad either: it’s sometimes better to have a selective spell rather than one that draws you numerous cards at random, and by the time a control deck has enough mana for a large value of X, it’ll dig more than deep enough to guarantee finding something useful.

Thassa’s Intervention is a flexible hybrid between card draw and countermagic. If your opponent refuses to play into your clutches, you can use it to select your way to a good hand; four mana for an instant-speed draw two is pretty legit, and you can put more mana in to make sure the two cards you get are cards that are more up your alley than just the top two of your deck. The countermagic mode is also nice as back-up and role compression, particularly with as hard as it scales into becoming a harder answer. I think Thassa’s Intervention is a card well-suited for blue in this format, and it’ll likely be played heavily for its first mode, though having more options never hurt anyone.
