Tannuk, Steadfast Second is a card that’s quite a potent enabler, to be sure. Warp intrinsically doesn’t grant haste to whatever is warped in…but this goes some way towards fixing that a bit, both by making the things you do warp able to act on their one in-play turn and letting you warp more things in. A flat three-mana payment can be quite nice, and while this is no Sneak Attack or Through the Breach, it can actually do a decent approximation of them in a pinch while potentially allowing for things to be cast later.
As a pure body, Tannuk isn’t anything special, as a 2/5 with no keywords. But considering he seems suited to being the co-pilot, I don’t think he minds. There’s a lot of interesting ways to make this suite of abilities work, and even if it’s nothing spectacular, a haste effect coming from your command zone (in commander) isn’t so bad, and being able to cheat creatures in ahead of schedule is pretty potentially potent.

I started playing Magic in 2000. One of the reasons I was attracted to the game was the presence of Kavu! These beautifully designed powerhouse creatures made a lasting impression on my twelve-year old self; even though nowadays they’ve practically disappeared.
I’d still play Flametongue Kavu any day of the week tho.
Anyway, on to Tannuk. His other card (Memorial Ensign) is already a powerhouse, and this one takes even more of the cake. Not only is it a Tuktuk Rubblefort with an extra punch, it also gives artifacts and red creatures in your hand a warp ability. That means that you can warp Flametongue Kavu for 1 less mana, have him deal his damage, exile him and return to battlefield next to turn for another 4 damage. What about the Extinguisher Battleship? I can’t even begin to think of all the possibilities.

Looking at this card reminds me of Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded, and how he promised a new era of devastating sneak attacks in every format. Purphoros didn’t really work out that way in Standard, though he definitely has a role in casual; Tannuk might come closer, though. That’s mainly because he uses the warp ability instead of the more conventional sacrifice clause, and warp is supported and encouraged by the design of Edge of Eternities. Granting haste obviously works well with warp, and it works with plenty of other things besides. I also note that he provides an alternative way for red to put cards into exile beyond impulse draw effects, and it’ll likely feel better to use him when you want to fuel cards like Cosmogoyf because you don’t lose the option to cast them after one or two turns.
