Silva, Impartial Judge
Teamwork
Type: None
Cost: 0/1/0
Effect: If you play a strike in Silva's zone, eliminate Silva. Before flipping a card, draw two cards. Place one in your discard pile and the other on top of your deck.

Welcome! We continue potentiall powerful teamwork week with yet another typless card. I have to give upper deck credit, they did a pretty solid job of making typless cards in this set still playable but not so good that they would be staples for every deck (theres some who would argue with me about manifestation of power and dark ascedance but those are card reviews for another time). Like lililala yesterday Silva has a tendency to show up in deck lists from time to time. I should take a moment to clarify here for those that don't know as the rule book clearly states teamworks only effect their own zone so no you don't get silvas effect everywhere. If they were ever to change that ruling your could probably add on an additional 2 points to my rating. But the way he's ruled now, and aside from the fact he was a pretty cool character in the show, does he really deserve a spot in most deck, lets take a closer look.

Pros
- Deck Manipulation
- Any deck can use

Cons
- Cost, while not expensive, isn't cheap either
- Kills himself the first time you counterstrike from his zone.

Overview: Basically the gist of Silva is that after you play him you have a 2 card hand in his zone isntead of the usual 1 card but the moment you decide to use a strike in his zone he gets disgruntled and leaves you to your aggressive ways. He compares in many ways to Lililala from yesterday. On one hand unlike lililala you can potentially use his effect many times before he goes away, particularly if your focusing, playing advantages, or pay for other teamworks only to discard them and reflip in his zone. And Remember whenever you reflip in his zone you look at the top 2 again (which will be different since you discard your extra) so with a string of advantages or teamworks you could cycle through your deck pretty quickly to get to the card you really want. Sure eventually if you play a strike he'll die but if you're playing a strike from his zone its because you got the strike you wanted for that particular situation so Silva's already done his job, and lililala dies as well which as you may noticed from my glowing review I dont' hold against her.

Deeper Analysis: So then it stands to reason that if Silva is so impressive and that I was all "Lililala pwns joo!" in my previous review that I would love Silva even more, right? Well see heres the hitch, the reason why silva hasn't over taken lililala's spots in my decks. First off the cost, this is probably the biggest thing. You've got to remember whenever you use a deck manipulator to get to a strike that your effectively adding on the cost of the deck manipulator to the cost of said strike. So that broom corn beatdown you searched for effectively cost you 3 yellow, not 2 if you used silva to find it. With lililala this was more accetable as you were only giving up a green. Whats more Lililala also was effectively tactical green in a zone where a teamwork already existed, silva however requires a more hefty yellow payment should he come up when you don't wish to play him. It may not seem like much but the difference between a green and a yellow can be the difference between winning and losing in a long drawn out duel. Silva also isn't optional like Lililala, every time you go to his zone his effect is in effect. So maybe you know you want to play a strike from his zone but at this point you don't really care which, and would rather have silva still be there later for celebrating or manipulation later, thats just not possible like it is with lililala. Further more the difference between looking at 2 cards at a time and 3 cards is relatively significant as well. Although via advantages and teamworks you can string out silva to get to look at more cards you don't really know what will be coming up, maybe you just burned furyoku needlessly to get to an even less useful strike then the one you had a moment ago. Seeing 2 is much better then seeing 1 card, but seeing 3 still tops it.

Combos/Uses: Pretty much any deck could use Silva, team yoh has a typed version in yohmei who I don't particularly like so I would probably still consider Silva, and Mind, well they probably don't really need Silva but I suppose he could be a decent place holder for beginners. Although any deck could use him, that doesn't mean every deck should use him. He pretty much anti-combos with decks that are very teamwork heavy, seeing as he's probably not going to last very long before he destroys himself you don't want to have to destroy one of your more long term useful teamworks to play him and as I mentioned earlier he's not exactly cheap to tactical (unless your paying not to have him cause theirs a joco in said zone). He's probably best positioned in your green where you can more easily focus if you don't want to destroy him when flipping strikes that could block but aren't ideal. The fact of the matter though is just that while useful, most decks have access to something that could be more helpful in his place so its going to be hard for Silva to break into deck lists of players with large card pools. Perhaps his best "combo/use" then is for filler for small budget players?

Final Rating Breakdown:
- Constructed: 2.9/5
- Sealed : 3.5/5 (A little better here as you'll have more crud to want to cycle through)

Foreword

Hey guy! Well we are now at the mid way point in my review week. L That is sad. But we do still have two reviews left! Two very good cards to review at that! Feeling better yet? No? Eh, me neitherread on.

--------------------------------------

Card Advantages

I guess that everyone has figured out a little bit of a theme so far for this weeks set of reviews, eh? Aside from being a teamwork and having a very similar effect to Lililala, Silva Impartial Judge has one other thing going for it that caused me to choose it to review. It is a personal favorite of mine. The reasons for this are not much different from the reasons I like Lililala so much. It has a lot of advantages to it.

Beginning with the effect Silva is just really good. Basically you are getting to draw two cards in Silvas zone before flipping as opposed to Lililalas three. While you may see this as an instant weakness to Lililala, but it isnt, allow me to explain. Although you are getting a +1 draw off of Lililala you have to discard her in order to use her ability. IE-her effect is a one time use. But with Silva you are going to be able to draw two cards multiple times as long as you do not play a strike in his zone. This makes him very valuable as a filtering tool. You can easily skim your deck of useless cards turn after turn without any drawbacks. This is why I always say Silva was made to be used in your green furyoku zone. If you are able to get him in the green zone then you are going to be able to reap the benefits of him without any type of drawbacks at all. You can set yourself up for the next zone or potentially for the next turn even! This makes Silva better than Lililala in some ways since you can use the effect more with Silva.

As is the case with Lililala, Silva has a great rarity, cost, and is not franchised. Clocking in as a common Silva is very easy to obtain. So it should only take about 5 packs to get a couple of them. The cost of Silva is little bit more than Lililala since it costs a yellow and not a green to cast him. This isnt a surprise though since he is somewhat better. This is still very cheap and is not going to be to big a deal most of the time. And of course since he isnt franchised he is very versatile.

--------------------------------------

Pros

Good effect.

Cheap cost.

Not franchised.

Is a common.

--------------------------------------

Card Disadvantages

Now I will be honest hereI do not see any major drawbacks at all here. Really I dont. If I had to nit pick at him I would go ahead and say that he is a tad bit weak when it comes to the drawback on his effect. But reallywho cares? The drawback has nothing on the effect at all. It is simply a formality in my opinion. It should not restrict him any and has not for me.

--------------------------------------

Cons

The effect has a small drawback.

--------------------------------------

Card Summary

I like this card. I mean it is in my top three cards in Reincarnation. It has such an advantageous effect and it has everything going good for it. I wouldnt ever call it an all out staple. There are no staples in Reincarnation for me. But in my deck it has done its fair share. Id recommend using 2 Lililala and 2 Silva. Maybe even max them both. They are that useful.

I am not feeling well, so I am going to keep this short. Silva is another card image from the Japanese OCG. I like Silva as a character. "Impartial Judge" isn't a good way to describe him. He picks favorites in the Shaman King Tournament. Against Hao and the X-Laws, but favors Yoh. Goldva (the bird-nose lady leader of the Patch, or Dolby for the Dub) would be a better character for "Impartial Judge."

A cost of a yellow is generally fine for a teamwork. No trait to limit which deck he could fit into, but his effect is nothing good....

"If you play a strike in Silva's zone, eliminate Silva." That is not a good effect. You would have to focus every strike you get inorder to keep this card in play. If he was in your green zone, you could lose alot of useful strikes. Also his effect comes into play as soon as you move him into the teamwork zone. So this includes the next flip into Silva's zone. I haven't played him since I figured I could never get his second effect.

Basically it's second effect the same as Monday's CotD, Lililala. But you only get a choice of 2 cards. I like options even if that means I am throwing out an extra card. Even if you pick a strike to be flipped into Silva's zone next you would be killing him off, preventing future drawing choices.

So for a quick sum up you can get his effect at least once, same as Lililala, but at a more expensive cost (1 yellow) with less options. I am giving him a bad score, compared to Lililala. Maybe since I am under the weather I am not looking at the good sides. Such as you could use his effect more than once.
