You’ve gotta watch out for that Frank Gorshin – he’s been in everything. No, wait, that’s not quite right . . . it’s definitely the right color identity, but it’s more like flowing knowledge with brute force, rather than forcible crimes enabled by flowing knowledge. It’s hard not to see the echoes of famous cards like Consecrated Sphinx and Mulldrifter, and while Quantum Riddler isn’t quite as powerful at either of those cards’ specialties, it makes up for it in flexibility. For two mana you get a card now and a five-mana cantrip creature later, which is conceptually close to drawing at least two cards and maybe slightly more. (One random card from your deck, plus still having access to the Riddler itself.) And speaking of five, as a flying creature it actually marginally beats Consecrated Sphinx just on the stats. Having to work slightly harder to double draws will be noticeable in some games, but there will be others where you just win because your 4/6 flier came down earlier than they usually do.

You can make all the memes you want about the 1966 Batman TV series, but it’s also an observable fact that its portrayals of major villains like Joker, Catwoman, Penguin – and, yes, the Riddler – influenced almost every Batman adaptation after it, as far afield as the Arkham Asylum video game series.

Another of the chase cards from Edge of Eternities, albeit with 62% more obvious viability, Quantum Riddler is certainly an interesting prospect. If you’re attempting to draw with a near-empty hand, you draw an additional card as well, and that makes the cantrip on its entry extremely good. Warp also makes this especially attractive, since it’s at worst a Think Twice with the ability to come back as a 4/6 evasive body that draws another card, and this is a surprisingly nice top deck when you’re low on gas.

Quantum Riddler is a card that plays a lot better than it looks, and it looks pretty decent…so, yeah, this thing is quite good and is an excellent way to keep tempo. It even helps you just on board as long as it lives, thanks to the ability to get two cards in a turn if your hand is small enough, and there are plenty of Standard decks right now that this can really help (like Vivi decks). I feel like you’ll see a lot of this in Constructed, but it’s also quite nice outside of it because of its ability to help you gas up when the tanks are running low.

Limited: 4.75 (good, evasive body that can provide benefit to any deck; it was probably mythic for a clear reason)

Not only does Quantum Riddler have Warp, it also sees itself on entry, so if you cast this as the (second to) last card in hand, you draw two. Right away. That makes this card extremely potent. Never before has there been a card that by itself lets you draw two cards for two mana with no side-effects. No wonder this is a chase card.

Throw a Splash Portal on it while it’s on the battlefield and you draw another two.

It’s extra useful because it gives you a big body on the battlefield as well. A 4/6 flyer is useful in any deck and in any format (think of its potential in Limited, it can only be killed by cards like Gravkill). It’s been performing very well so far and I can’t wait to see more of it!
