 WildWill
Name: Rover

Card #s: 018 (Rare)
Type: Ship
Cost: 2 Points
Faction: Pirates
Masts: 1
Cargo: 2
Cannons 2L
Movement 1S + 1L
Ability: “This ship’s base move becomes 1S when she reaches her cargo limit.”
Flavor Text: “Captain Hansson has made maps of many of the small inlets that litter the Crimson Coast, which he uses as refuge when his ship's small hold becomes laden with treasure.”
For two measly points look what you get…a ship that can err…move pretty fast. One gun really isn’t much, but she’s virtually guaranteed a hit every time. Due to that low point total, the only crew you can put on her have to cost 2 points or less, and that limits you to an Oarsman, Helmsman, Cannoneer or a few choice named crew. You COULD put The Stump or Gaspar Zuan on her, which would allow you to use a 3 point crew, but then you’d lose that extra 1L of speed. I would just go either a Helmsman to give her S+S+L movement, or perhaps that Cannoneer to allow you to fire your cannon one more time.
Rover can be used especially well with the Explosives Treasure token, which has just been released in the Pirates of the Revolution set. Essentially by picking up Explosives you turn your little 2 point boat into a suicide machine that can take out ANY ship fifty percent of the time. (When you load explosives you have the option of ramming another ship, rolling 1D6, on the result of 4-6 both ships sink. Explosives is removed from the game regardless of the roll). I haven’t had the opportunity to actually DO that to an opponent, but I can’t wait to see the look on their face when my little 2 pointer takes out their Titan!
Thankfully, there is only one version of Rover thus far, a rare from the Crimson Coast set. Rover is pretty desirable, and usually trades for more than just your standard one-masted ship does.

For one measly card, Rover is a beast. I’ve heard of players with fleets of 5-10 Rovers, and that’s just sick! Being the lowest cost ship in the entire game, I can see the reasons why you might want multiples in a fleet. Grab one NOW while you can.

Next Week – We’ll continue to look at ships and crew one faction at a time. To give some variety, we’ll look at the Spanish next time! This ship's base move becomes S when she reaches her cargo limit.

Today we review Rover, a rare pirate ship from Crimson Coast.
Points:
2 points. Wow! There are only 15 ships in the game with 5 or less points, and this is one of them. At 2 points, it will probably become a throw in with the rest of your ships.
Point rating: 10/10.

Masts:
With only 1 mast, this guy won't be staying in play for long.
Mast Rating: 2/5.

Cannons:
With only 1 mast, that means only 1 cannon.
Mast 1 Cannon 2L
Luckily, it's only cannon can shoot far, and has an easy roll to get past.
Cannon Rating: 6/10

Movement:
L+S. This thing seems to be a one hit wonder- get to
the enemy ship as fast as possible, and shoot it once.
Movement Rating: 5/5

Cargo:
2 Cargo. Its effect basically makes it only have 1 cargo.
Cargo Rating: 5/10

Ability:
The ability of this is to harm it, not help it. It makes her only able to move S when the cargo is filled up. The advantage of this ship was its speed, and the ability really slows this down. In retrospect, this ability simply makes this a fast 1-cargo ship.
Ability Rating: 0/10

There are much better ships to use then this.
Total Rating: 2.5/5
