Many things are not what they seem in the Nine Worlds, and once upon a time people weren’t entirely sure that the grizzled traveller on the road wasn’t Odin – or perhaps Loki. I think people should still be more wary of either of those possibilities, but in the meantime, you can get just a taste of that shape-switching troll-craft with this card. Like many symmetrical effects, Mystic Reflection can be timed just right to turn out entirely biased and crooked. Duplicating enters-the-battlefield abilities, turning Saprolings into Eldrazi and Eldrazi into Saprolings, and reducing an opponent’s legendary bomb to something mundane are just the beginning.

Mystic Reflection offers several interesting avenues: you can use it to make what would be a small army of yours swole as heck, or you can use it to “counter” an opponent’s attempts to go off by making their army into, say, a horde of 0/1 Goats. There’s a fair amount of flexibility in how you can use this as either a defensive tool or as an offensive tool, and while foretell isn’t a discount, one blue mana is less threatening than having two mana open as a blue player might be. It’s a potent spell with a lot of angles to attack from, and while it’s not a perfect answer (as it’ll make opponents hold off on future plays if you use it against them), I can see games where this is the prelude to a swift, ignominious end.

Constructed: 3.75
Casual: 4.75
Limited: 4 (soft removal or buffing an army…seems good)
Multiplayer: 4 (it hits everyone in that turn, not just one person)
Commander: 4.25 (best way to thwart a Commander? make it useless without removing it)
