Cards like Mirrormade are the ultimate friend of budget-minded Magic players. You may not have had the fortune to find a chase rare in a booster, and you may not have the funds to get it as a single (Oko is up to like $100 in Australia now!). But you’re much more likely to be able to find one of these, and then you can play with literally whatever your opponents have. It’s got a low mana cost which helps with its flexibility, and it’s an enchantment off the field in case any cards care about that – I hear we might be visiting Theros again soon, for what that’s worth.

Plus, as a literal piece of the Magic Mirror’s transcendental power, it makes a lot more conceptual sense for it to be able to copy a Mox or Sol Ring than however Clever Impersonator is supposedly being a planeswalker!

A flexible version of Copy Artifact or Copy Enchantment, Mirrormade is an intriguing card that is either as good as your best thing or your opponent’s best thing. If they have a big threatening artifact or enchantment, you can get another one, and the same goes for if you have one that you like. The mana cost is less flexible than its forebears, even if itself is more flexible, and it offers a fair bit of potential in terms of the shenanigans it can bring to bear. It’s not indomitable, though, as it relies a fair bit on what the board state looks like.

That said, this has a fair amount of flexibility now (as a way to copy things like Embercleave and The Great Henge, to give an example), and it might get better as we return to Theros in the next block (the block of enchantment creatures). It’s as good as the format around it, and I think there will be room for Mirrormade in the current format.
