Fitting with their respective color identities, Kasmina is kind of an inverted version of Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God from War of the Spark who shares her abilities with other planeswalkers. That means that many (perhaps most) people who build decks with her are going to be trying to engineer a situation where they can set off her ultimate on somebody else right away – if you can pull that off, you’ll most likely win on the spot, but it does take some setup. Even aside from that, she’s not too bad even if you’re mainly using her other abilities. Continuous scrying is obviously good for any deck, and turning that into a big Fractal token on a later turn makes it even better. Not to mention that her static ability can easily break the once-per-turn restriction!

A three-mana planeswalker with a bit of a twist, Kasmina 2.0 sort of plays well with other planeswalkers by sharing her abilities with them. In particular, giving them a +2, even if that +2 is fairly underwhelming on the surface, is certainly dangerous to some of them! That alone will give Kasmina some utility in “superfriends” decks that rely on planeswalkers doing increasingly rude things over the course of a game.

She herself is not so bad, either. Repeatable scrying while ticking up by 2 each time is nice, and she can help supply you with blockers or an army if you have need for them (or, alternatively, death triggers). Her ultimate is certainly brutal in the right hands, as a free spell can do lots of nasty things if you let it; she needs help to protect herself, but going up by 2 means she can definitely get there sooner.

Kasmina, Enigma Sage is sort of a value engine. She’s not phenomenal alone, but she is serviceable, and she’s definitely deadly with friends. I think she’ll see plenty of play, particularly thanks to her serendipitous color combination.

Constructed: 3.75
Casual: 4.5
Limited: 4.75 (her -X is a massive threat on its own)
Multiplayer: 3
Commander: 3.5
