Icejade Manifestation – #PHHY-EN053

If you control a WATER monster and your opponent has a monster on their field or GY: Take 1 “Icejade” monster from your Deck, and either send it to the GY or Special Summon it. If a face-up “Icejade” monster you control leaves the field by an opponent’s card, except by being destroyed (and except during the Damage Step): You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 card your opponent controls; banish it. You can only use each effect of “Icejade Manifestation” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Icejade Manifestation is the first Spell from the Icejade archetype that we’ve reviewed in a long time.

To play Manifestation you’ll need a WATER monster and your opponent will have to control a monster or have one in the grave, so shotgunning this turn one likely isn’t possible unless you got hand trapped and summoned a WATER. When you do play Manifestation, you get either an Icejade Foolish Burial or Special Summon from the Deck. Acti and Aegirine are the first targets you should be thinking about with Manifestation. This Spell ensures that you will get to your best searchers for the Icejaes if you didn’t draw them. For using it as a Foolish Burial, Aegirocassis can equip to an Icejade and then Special Summon itself off that Icejade, while Kingfisher is a bounce effect against your opponent when Special Summoned from being attached to an Icejade. Other cards within the archetype will work with this card as the game goes on, but these are your best choices off the cuff.

If an Icejade of yours were to be banished from the field or sent from the field to the grave or hand, you can balance things out by banishing Manifestation to banish a card your opponent controls. It is something as old as this game is, but 1-for-1 effects will always be useful, especially when you are using a card you’ve already used and is now in the grave. More and more Spells and Traps have grave effects because they need to do more than just a one-time use on the field. Banishing is better than destroying, and while this effect only happens when your opponent doesn’t destroy an Icejade monster of yours, it is worth having just in case.

Great Spell to get things going for the archetype. A turn two Spell for sure, but can be used as a turn one Spell if your opponent counters your opening play(s). Not as good as Triple Tactics Talent is in that regard, but this does get you to any Icejade you want and is a potential banish later on.

Today’s card is another new Icejade card; Icejade Manifestation is a Normal Spell, and can be searched accordingly by Icejade Aegirine. Manifestation has two hard once per turn effects. First, if you control a WATER monster and your opponent has a monster on their field or in their Graveyard, you can either Special Summon an Icejade monster straight from your deck or send it to the Graveyard. Either option is great for extending Icejade combos, though relying on your opponent makes it quite a letdown. Granted, hand traps make Manifestation easier to activate than you would think, but it’s going to sting when it’s not live. Manifestation’s other effect triggers if one of your Icejade monsters leaves the field by an opponent’s card effect (not including destruction, oddly enough) while it’s in the Graveyard, letting you banish it to target and banish a card on your opponent’s field. This effect is pretty odd to me since it conflicts with Icejade Gymir Aegirine; I can only assume the intent is to bait your opponent into using destruction removal on your Icejades to trigger their summoning effects, but it’s an awfully scuffed strategy. While this card can save you in some niche scenarios, I don’t think it’s worth running even as a going second E-tele; most of the time I’d rather just stick with Icejade Cradle.

Midweek brings us to yet another new Icejade card to help get your monsters out quicker: Icejade Manifestation.

Manifestation is a Normal Spell where if you control a WATER monster and the opponent already has a monster on their side of the field or in their graveyard, you can take an Icejade monster from your Deck and either send it to the graveyard or Special Summon it. It’s at least a free monster on board, but it does require you to establish a WATER monster on board and for your opponent to have a monster on their field or in their graveyard, so unless you get hit with a hand-trap, this is likely dead until Turn 2 or later sadly. Secondly, if a face-up Icejade monster(s) you control leaves the field by a card effect that doesn’t destroy it, you can banish this card from the graveyard to target a card the opponent controls and banish it. It does require specific removal from the opponent, but you can’t get too picky with some graveyard effects. Hard once per turn on each effect, which is fine. It’s an alright card for Icejades, but the restrictions on activation for both effects makes it fairly specific and most of the time it’ll be dead on the first turn. Activating it and resolving it successfully can be nice, just hope the opponent sets you up for it, though.

Art: 4.5/5 A nice use of color between this battle with Abyss Dragon Swordsoul and Gymir Aegirine.
