Hinata is already getting a lot of attention in Commander, because spells with multiple targets are understandably very good there. And she wins duels of such spells just by being in play. Beyond that, there’s some insane combo potential, as the multi-target X spells are generally balanced by additional costs; and also a very sneaky way to make aggressive strategies better in Commander, as blue, red, and white have some really powerful combat tricks. Off the top of my head, Ajani’s Presence can be enough of a blowout without cost reduction, and that’s just the beginning!

Constructed: 3/5 (a lot depends on what’s coming up in Standard, and her colors would have been better for Ikoria)
Casual: 5/5
Limited: 4/5
Multiplayer: 4/5
Commander [EDH]: 4/5

Cost reduction is always a fun mechanic to play with, and Hinata, Dawn-Crowned offers a fairly fun take on it, pairing well with spells like Comet Storm or any of the old strive spells to clear out a board. A triple-color casting cost is a bit of a tall ask, but seeing as how you both make your spells more efficient and tax opponents, that’s not so bad. I feel like this one is a bit of a weird sleeper; with the right set-up, you can abuse the cost reduction in spectacular ways, and there are surprisingly large numbers of random spells that target as part of their cast. It’s weird, but Hinata has a lot of promise if you build around her…and a 4/4 with evasion and trample isn’t so bad, either.

Constructed: 3.25 (resists targeted removal and offers that to your other permanents, but the colors are a bit awkward going into a “shard” colored set)
Casual: 4
Limited: 4 (honestly, a 4/4 with flying and trample is solid enough to get the job done, particularly one that resists removal spells)
Multiplayer: 4
Commander [EDH]: 4.25 (I feel like this is an excellent card to build around; Jeskai can go wide with its spells)

A better commander than constructed card, Hinata is already seeing builds in spells decks that have multiple targets.  Immediately when I saw this card I thought of pairing it with Fireball for the win condition.  Just having to pay the XR and not the additional one mana turns a okay card into a great card.  Be sure to check out commander websites to see what types of shenanigans people are making with Hinata at the lead!  If only it had green so it could ramp mana easier…
