Hello Pojo Fans,

Gigantic “Champion” Sargas ends the first week of May on Pojo.

Another Springans Xyz, making it three for them now, “Champion” Sargas is a Rank 8 that can amass multiple Level 8’s to make its Xyz Summon. In addition to that, you can also use a Springans Xyz monster to Xyz Summon it, so those other two Xyz monsters (Merrymaker and Exblower) are available to you. Within the archetype you’ve got those two and two other Springans that are Level 8 (Branga and the original Captain Sargas) as well as four Therion monsters that can be used (Yul, Alasia, Reegulus, and Borea).

I mention Therion because they tie into “Champion” Sargas’s effect of being an archetype search for either Therion or Springans while “Champion” Sargas has an Xyz Material attached. Anytime you get a monster that is a searcher, let alone over two archetypes that work together and can search any card within those two, it is a good thing. Whenever a material is detached from a monster(s) on the field your “Champion” Sargas can pop a card or return a card to the hand. Flexibility in terms of spot removal, avoiding destruction protection and effects that plus off destruction as an alternative to just making something go “boom” is an added detail players enjoy. Because “Champion” Sargas cannot detach on its own you’ll need to do it yourself through the column-wiping power of Exblower or the Spell we reviewed this week: Tally-ho! Springans. In the latter case you’ll get a Springan search alongside the destruction/bounce of “Champion” Sargas, as well as a Special Summon from your hand or Deck of a Springan. The big thing for me is that you can use a Springan Xyz monster for this summon and Merrymaker is a Rank 4, arguably the easiest Rank to make. In addition, you shouldn’t ever be without materials attached because of the Springan’s ability to attach to an Xyz.

“Champion” Sargas is a combination of Therion and Springan archetypes working together and they work pretty well with summoning this Rank. Conventional and convenient ways of summoning it, combined with a good spot removal on the field that can be done easily but not on its own balances out the card. It would have been one-sided had “Champion” Sargas been able to detach to search and then spot remove off its own effect, but we’ve seen that before.

The week ends off with a combination of Therions and Springans in the form of a new Xyz Monster: Gigantic “Champion” Sargas.

Sargas is a Rank 8 FIRE Machine Xyz with 2800 ATK and 1500 DEF. The ATK is fairly solid for a Rank 8, FIRE is fine, and Machine is fairly good. It is a generic Rank 8, just needing 2 Level 8 monsters to summon, but you can also summon this once a turn using any Springans Xyz you control, which gives Rank 4 stategies access to Therions via Merrymaker existing. The first effect can trigger while it has material, searching for any Springans or Therion card directly from your Deck. Easy access like this to the entire Therion or Springans line-up is really good on a generic Rank 8 you can also make through using a Rank 4. It’s an easy search for Therion “King” Regulus or any Springans card if you’re already playing pure Springans, or you get whatever Therion is useful to you in anything that can make this generically. The second effect triggers if a material is detached from a monster(s) on the field, letting you target a card on the field to either destroy it or return it to the hand. It’s farily easy removal to trigger just by using the effects of other Xyz Monsters you control that detach materials. You can destroy anything you want, or just bounce the card instead if destroying it will trigger an effect. It’ll mainly trigger in Springans using Captain Sargas’s effect to detach materials for more pops. Hard once per turn on each effect, which is fine. Springans do appreciate having something like this to search their entire Deck for the whole archetype or to get to Therion “King” Regulus. Anything Rank 4 or 8 related that can also use a Therion monster could also summon this to search for said Therion, likely a Plant or Machine Deck to search for “Lily” Borea or “King” Regulus outright. A very good Rank 8 to boost two archetypes at once.

Wrapping up the week is the new boss of the Springans archetype in all but name, Gigantic “Champion” Sargas, doubling as an unofficial integration of the Spright, Therion, and Springans archetypes. Not unlike its original form, Sargas is a Rank 8 FIRE Machine Xyz monster. It’ll take any two or more level 8 monsters, making it completely generic, but there are other ways to bring it out. For a Rank 8 Xyz, Sargas has a decent 2800 attack but a much less impressive 1500 defense, the inverse of its original form. I would’ve liked a little more bulk, but it is what it is!

Sargas has a once per turn alternative summoning condition, letting you Xyz summon it using a Springans Xyz monster you control. In practice, this essentially turns any Rank 4 play into Sargas, as Springans Merrymaker is a generic Rank 4 monster itself. Sargas’s other two effects are both hard once per turns; the first lets you search any Springans or Therion card from your deck as long as it has Xyz material. Most of the time, you’ll be searching Therion “King” Regulus, who will conveniently have a Machine in the Graveyard to summon itself, provided that you used Springans Merrymaker’s foolish effect. Alternatively, you could also grab Tally-Ho! Springans for extension if you don’t feel like you need Regulus at the moment. Sargas’s last effect triggers if an Xyz material is detached from any monster, letting you target a card on the field and either destroy it or bounce it back to the owner’s hand. While it can’t trigger this effect by itself, you can always trigger it by flipping Tally-Ho! during your opponent’s turn, or having Spright Sprind on the field for two disruptions. There’s been experimentation with the Superheavy Samurai engine to field Regulus without your Normal Summon, though time will tell if it catches on in the TCG. Overall, a fantastic boss for the Springans archetype and it ties together its three respective decks quite nicely.
