If you’ve been looking to make your own angel-themed custom Jumpstart pack, Giada may well be the answer to your prayers. Maybe that’s just me. Even in other situations, she’s deceptively powerful as a “lord”, since you usually want such a card to fit in the right part of your mana curve compared to the rest of your creatures of that type. So for goblins, three mana is a great cost for lords to have, because by the time you can cast them you’ll probably already have between two and five goblins who can take advantage of the bonus. Angels, though, tend to be expensive, making their tribal decks lack things to do in the early turns . . . but Giada gives you at least one. The fact that she uses +1/+1 counters is also great, as white has a lot of other cards that play well with those. And if you can get even one or two extra counters, you’re probably in a better long-term position than if she gave a static +1/+1 or something. You also don’t see many mana creatures in white, so the novelty is cool, even if it’s bound to one tribe.

Despite that initially innocuous body, Giada, Font of Hope might just be what Angels needed to function well as a tribe, serving as equal parts tribal lord and mana dork. Angels historically cost a lot of mana and take a while to come out, but she might provide them their biggest book in terms of getting out ahead of schedule. She’s also a pretty nice attacker without any other angels to support, so there is that!

While I feel like Giada is probably going to do more in Commander and at casual tables, she’s not completely without intrigue in Standard, given that Kaldheim gave a couple of interesting Angels to play with. She might make waves in deeper formats, but I think she’s just a touch too fair for them; that said, Angels can be a massive threat if unprepared for, and something like Luminarch Ascension makes Giada into a very scary time bomb…

Constructed: 3.75 (going to be a bit conservative; she’s good, but I’m not sure if she’s what this Standard needs or wants)
Casual: 4.75
Limited: 4 (good reason to pick up other Angels, and she herself is an efficient clock)
Multiplayer: 3
Commander [EDH]: 4.25
