Fallen Angel of the Golden Land – #ALIN-EN036
“Eldlich the Golden Lord” + 1 Zombie monster
Must be either Fusion Summoned, or Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by Tributing 1 LIGHT Zombie monster, while you have “Eldlich the Golden Lord” in your field or GY. You can only Special Summon “Fallen Angel of the Golden Land” once per turn this way, no matter which method you use. If this card is sent from the field to the GY: You can Special Summon 1 “Eldlich” monster from your Deck, Extra Deck, or GY. You can only use this effect of “Fallen Angel of the Golden Land” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Fallen Angel of the Golden Land is the newest Fusion Monster for the Eldlich archetype and our card to end the week on.
Needing the OG Eldlich and a Zombie monster, once again Konami has made certain that you can easily summon something bigger than Eldlich in his archetype. You aren’t going to be playing a Fusion Spell for this though, you are Special Summoning FAotGL by tributing a LIGHT Zombie monster while Eldlich is on field or in grave. Tribute Eldlich himself, or the Mad Golden Lord, or any of your Trap Monsters within the archetype. However you Special Summon FAotGL, you have a weaker Fusion than Mad Golden Lord, however, if you send him from the field to the grave, you get a free Eldlich Special Summon from Deck, Extra Deck, or grave. This is the primary way to Special Summon Mad Golden Lord, eliminating the need to play a Fusion Spell, and is a far-better attacking monster with inherited destruction protection, as well as the ability to trade a Zombie to steal an opponent’s monster permanently.
Either of the Eldlixer Quick-Play Spells will get you directly to Eldlich to summon FAotGL, in addition to being banished and give you a “Golden Land” Spell/Trap for your next setup or protection. After you get to this monster, you’ll go quickly to Mad Golden Lord. However you get FAotGL off the field is up to you, however, you are likely using this as link material alongside a Trap Monster for something like Flying Mary. Since you cycle through Eldlich copies so easily there won’t be any delay in getting one on field or in the grave. It’s good that all the Trap Monsters are LIGHT in this archetype, as well as Eldlich himself, as there aren’t really any good choices to add to the archetype to match the LIGHT Zombie requirement.
Fallen Angel of the Golden Land is a fantastic addition to the archetype. Easily summoned and gets you immediately to the biggest hitter in the archetype. You don’t get locked into Zombies by summoning it or Mad Golden Lord either, however, the Eldlixer Spells will do that, though I can’t see you summoning anything else aside from S:P to eliminate something on-board before finishing the turn. The fact that Eldlich can use his effect, pop back to the hand, Special Summon himself, become this monster, then trade for a bigger Fusion with little card investment is fantastic archetype mechanics that, once again, you absolutely need in a one-monster archetype.

We end this week off with a new Fusion dedicated to Eldlich himself to make up for the first attempt: Fallen Angel of the Golden Land.
Fallen Angel is a Level 10 DARK Zombie Fusion with 1800 ATK and 2500 DEF. Stats leave a bit to be desired, but DARK Zombies are nice. Fusion Materials are Eldlich the Golden Lord along with any Zombie monster, which sounds generic enough for Eldlich to do, but you’ll more often than not summon this with the alternative summoning condition of tributing a LIGHT Zombie while Eldlich the Golden Lord is already in your field or graveyard, with you only being able to use the alternate summoning method once a turn this way. This basically gives Eldlich a Link-1 dedicated to the archetype to use a Golden Land Continuous Trap you already summoned, putting it into the graveyard to later grab your Eldlixirs, meaning less of a need for cards like Link Spider, though you should probably still run that in case you somehow don’t already have Eldlich or you already used the once per turn summoning condition. Getting Eldlich into circulation before you have the body to summon this should be a piece of cake, with your Traps hopefully stalling a turn before you get what you need to summon this. The second effect triggers if this is sent from the field to the graveyard, letting you summon any Eldlich monster from your Deck, Extra Deck, or graveyard. So it’ll get you to another copy of the original Golden Lord or now you can summon Eldlich the Mad Golden Lord without having to force the archetypal Fusion Spell into the Deck or hoping for the very specific moment you could use Super Polymerization to summon it, making Mad Golden Lord a much better card now, even if not properly summoned via this effect. HOPT on this floating effect, but I don’t know how often you’ll see multiples of these on the field with the summoning condition preferred being once per turn itself. Fallen Angel is great to help get value of your Golden Land Traps by putting them in the graveyard easily, especially nice if you are under a Zombie lock. It’s also another Level 10 you could overlay with Eldlich the Golden Lord to make a Rank 10. Eldlich doesn’t use the Extra Deck a lot otherwise, hence why you’ll see cards like Pot of Extravagance or Prosperity in there, but 3 of these should work either way since you’ll likely have a LIGHT Zombie often to summon these out, and you’d want the extras for the random Extravagance banish.

Art: 5/5 Eldlich does have some good artwork overall.

Closing out the week is a new sub-boss for Eldlich, Fallen Angel of the Golden Land, a level 10 DARK Zombie Fusion monster this time. It’ll take Eldlich the Golden Lord and any Zombie monster, though we won’t have to worry about this once we get to its alternate summoning condition. Speaking of which, because it’s so easy to summon, it’ll unfortunately take a huge hit to its stats, with a paltry 1800 attack and 2500 defense for a level 10 Fusion monster. Who knew Eldlich of all decks would get a dedicated combo piece? To add on to the misery, it doesn’t count as Eldlich either, but thankfully that won’t be too much of an issue since it won’t be sticking around for very long.
Fallen Angel can only be Special Summoned once per turn by any method, which is quite strict but makes sense considering its alternate summoning condition will let you Special Summon it directly from your Extra Deck by tributing any LIGHT Zombie as long as the original Eldlich is on your field or in your Graveyard (so basically, tributing Eldlich itself). I’m a rare defender of Seven Cities of the Golden Land, which is how you’re intended to hard fuse this card and Eldlich the Mad Golden Lord, but the vast majority of the time you’ll be using its alternative summoning condition. Weirdly enough, Fallen Angel does not actually have an on-field effect, but it does have a pretty crazy hard once per turn effect, triggering if it’s sent from the field to the Graveyard to Special Summon any Eldlich monster from your deck, Graveyard, or Extra Deck. This has 2 purposes– the most obvious one is it’ll let you cheat out Eldlich the Mad Golden Lord, solely because it’s a great beater thanks to its phenomenal stats and permanent protection. But more importantly, Fallen Angel is a clean and fantastic Rank 10 enabler in Eldlich since your Eldlixir cards are either slow or lock you into Zombies. If there’s another body on the board like Gozuki or a token from Delta of Invitation, you’ll be able to Link it off for Flying Mary, the Wandering Ghost Ship and revive Eldlich and go into a Rank 10 using Mad Golden Lord. If you really need to destroy something, Varudras , the Final Bringer of End Times is a great choice, but often you will summon Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max and go into the Train combo to finish off your opponent, which you’ll want to do as quickly as possible considering how grindy other decks have become. The support is overall great for Eldlich, but unfortunately doesn’t quite do enough to keep pace with how modern decks have evolved. Still, this is one of the few Extra Deck monsters I’d run 2 or even 3 copies of since Eldlich proper doesn’t really have a way to recycle Fallen Angel or Mad Golden Lord, especially if you don’t summon them properly.
+Powerful combo piece that enables faster Xyz plays and Mad Golden Lord
+Very easy to summon
-Needs Link fodder for its full combo potential
-Suffers from being difficult to recycle if cheated out alongside Mad Golden Lord

Art: 4.25/5 Art is insane for something with those stats, though maybe they’re setting up a new Eldlich Fusion later…
