Space angel . . . singing, winging, way up high . . .

Given how big a role tokens play in white’s strengths, it’s not a surprise that it keeps getting new variants on the Doubling Season concept. You don’t usually see ones that attack and block so effectively – token doubling is powerful enough on its own that you could justify balancing it by giving it to a 1/1 creature. Yet Exalted Sunborn is a card that a lot of decks can’t beat just on the basis of its stats, even before you get into its static abilities. And much like Starfield Vocalist from a couple of weeks ago, the warp ability gives you a lot of flexibility, letting you play it almost like a combo card and fit the cost of your token generators and other triggers around it. If the designers really intended this card to be really good, I think they’ll get their wish, and a lot of us are probably going to need to source a lot more tokens to play with.

Everyone loves token doublers, and Exalted Sunborn give just that, albeit with a twist. If you just need one turn of explosive growth, you can warp it in for two mana to unload your combo, and then it can linger around to be cast later properly when you need the body (or want another go). The body is serviceable enough as a side attraction to the main show (and can end games if unchecked), but the main draw is definitely being able to double token production (and not just any token…all of them).

Exalted Sunborn feels like it’s going to shine brightest if you already have ways to generate rude amounts of tokens, but even simple things like a Smothering Tithe can add up over a long game in a format like Commander. Doubling anything often can lead to a massive mess when push comes to shove, and Exalted Sunborn feels like it’ll always be on the verge of breaking something wide open.

Constructed: 3.5 (a bit shakier in Constructed, but I think it’s seeing some play in deeper formats, so it does have promise)

The perennial token doubler, that we’ve seen in most recent sets (think Elspeth in Tarkir) has Warp! That means that for one and a white you can activate it’s ability and start doubling. Giving it haste and copying it – with for example The Duke – makes it an even bigger threat, and if you also happen to have an Ocelot Pride lying around, you’re off to the races.

It’s already making its way into competitive settings, such as Modern, where it might secure a spot in the energy decks (Boros and Mardu).

I also like the combination of it being an Angel and a Wizard. That will make for some fun interactions in those tribes. EoE actually has another Angel Wizard, in the form of Lightstall Inquisitor. An interesting card as well, especially because at a cost of one white it’s incredibly fast.
