Hello Pojo Fans,

Evolzar Laggia is our Throwback Thursday choice this week and one that is always a potential threat in Dinosaurs. Requiring 2 Level 4 Dinosaur monsters, Laggia saw a lot of play back in the day in Dino Rabbit, and if that deck returns it could once again see some play. Recently it is seeing play in Dinomorphia and in True King Dino. A solid Rank 4 Xyz, Laggia is a Quick Effect version of Solemn Judgment without the LP cost. Negate anything and destroy it at the cost of both materials attached. If you’ve got more attached, more negations for you, but that would require other ways of attaching to Laggia. Solid stats for a Rank 4 and good utility as a single-time negation that now can be linked away for a Link Summon of something else. Being able to Rescue Rabbit into two vanilla dinos, attack, then go into this to frustrate your opponent is a good play that still holds water today.

It isn’t as frustrating a card as it used to be and as only a one-time use nearly all of the time it may not be looked upon anymore as a worthwhile target in the Extra Deck to be run. Still though, a LP free Solemn Judgment will always be a powerful effect.

Throwback Thursday this week goes well with recent Dinosaur support, and goes with tomorrow’s card pretty well, as we look at Dino Rabbit’s favorite Evolzar Laggia.

Laggia is a Rank 4 FIRE Dragon Xyz with 2400 ATK and 2000 DEF. Good stats for a Rank 4, FIRE is pretty solid, and Dragon is always great. Materials are any 2 Level 4 Dinosaurs to summon, which was easy back in the day with Rescue Rabbit and now you can just play a pure Dinosaur Deck and easily get 2 Level 4s out for this. In return, when a monster(s) would be Normal or Special Summoned or a Spell/Trap Card is activated, you can detach 2 materials from this card to negate and destroy it. Literally Solemn Judgment on legs, which is pretty good. Laggia was always tricky to deal with since its inception, and while it might be a bit easier now, dealing with a negate like this can still be troublesome. Thankfully it does need both materials, cause getting 2 negates on this like you could with Dolkka would be pretty broken. As it is, Laggia is still a great Rank 4 for Dinosaurs to use in the modern game and I still think it’s something you shouldn’t go without when running a Dino Deck.

Art: 4/5 Laggia was always cool, just a green dragon feels weird.

Throwback Thursday foreshadow’s tomorrow’s card with Evolzar Laggia, one of the bosses of the Evol archetype. Laggia is a Rank 4 FIRE Dinosaur Xyz monster, not unlike its compatriot Evolzar Dolkka, and requires two level 4 Dinosaur monsters, which is a simple task thanks to Souleating Oviraptor. Scrap Raptor, and Giant Rex all being level 4 monsters. Laggia sports a generous 2400 attack and 2000 defense for a Rank 4 monster, so it’ll hold its own on the battlefield against most small fry.

Just like during the heyday of Dinosaur’s terror, Laggia has a single non-once per turn Quick effect (practically once per turn due to Xyz material limits), detaching two Xyz materials to either negate a monster summon or negate a Spell or Trap activation, destroying the card as well. It’s simple, but extremely effective. Laggia and its cousin Dolkka were both very easy to summon with the infamous Dino Rabbit combo, a short and simple play using Rescue Rabbit to summon two Kabazauls and immediately making Dolkka or Laggia, resulting in Rescue Rabbit being hit on the banlist. In modern times, relying on Rescue Rabbit is no longer necessary as natural Dinosaur combos can make it easily, and the effects themselves have aged like a fine wine. Still, while Dinosaur may be out of the limelight for now, its bosses still live rent-free in the minds of many.

Advanced: 4.25/5

Art: 3.75/5 He’s a little stocky and not as cool as Dolkka, but he still looks good.
