Japanese Dragon Ball  - Episode Summaries

Episode 30 - Pilaf and the Mystery Militia

Series: Dragon Ball
Version: Japanese subbed
Episodes # and title: 30. Pilaf and the Mystery Militia
Name: Goten6641

An unknown hand is seen, holding a cigar. An evil looking cat is sitting on this man’s lap. The cigar is put out on an ash trey with a picture of some woman.

Meanwhile, Son Goku is flying along on Kintoun (Flying Nimbus for dub fans), continuing his search for his grandfather’s Dragon Ball (the one with 4 stars). He smacks into a rock wall, and falls toward a spikey valley below.  Kintoun easily catches him.

Elsewhere, an Oozaru (were monkey is seen) attacking Pilaf. Pilaf suddenly wakes up, screaming, having had a nightmare about Oozaru Goku. Shuu (his ninja dog henchman) runs into the room and asks what’s wrong. Pilaf lies that he just fell on the floor, but Shuu says that Pilaf ALWAYS sleeps on the floor (funny). Pilaf smacks Shuu with his slipper. Shuu tells Pilaf that they have began to pick up Dragon Balls on the radar again. Pilaf begins crying in happiness, now that his wish for world domination can be finally granted.  Shuu asks why he is crying, and Pilaf attempts to whack him with the slipper again. Shuu catches the slipper, but Pilaf tries again, and hits Shuu this time. Pilaf walks to his window, and opens it happily. Shuu frantically reminds Pilaf that they are living on a ship in the sky. Pilaf suddenly flies out the window, and hangs on a blanket for his life (Shuu is holding onto the other end of the blanket). Shuu gets hit in the head by an object, and he blacks out, still holding the blanket. Pilaf can’t climb back into the ship.

Meanwhile, a little boy (who looks poor, since he is in dirty clothes) who looks like Goku, is walking along. Not too far away, Goku is swimming around in a lake. The boy runs up and steals Goku’s clothes, Nyoibo, and Dragon Radar, thinking that he can sell them for cash. The boy runs off. Goku finishes his swim, and steps out of the lake. Goku can’t find his stuff, and he flies off on Kintoun to find it. Goku gets an idea, and yells for Nyoibo (Power Pole for dub fans) to extend. He sees Nyoibo rise from the forest, and so he goes down toward that area. Down in the forest, the boy is scared of Nyoibo, and he runs off, leaving Goku’s clothes and Nyoibo behind. Goku comes down, and retrieves his clothes and Nyoibo. Goku realizes that the Dragon Radar is gone. Goku sees that the boy left behind a shoe, and he smells it.  Goku is disgusted by the smell. Goku runs off, following the smell of the boy.

Elsewhere, a mysterious army is driving along in jeeps and tanks. One of them looks rather muscular.

Meanwhile, Pilaf and Mai are searching a town for a Dragon Ball that their Dragon Radar picked up.

Elsewhere in the town, the thief boy runs up to his “boss” and offers to sell him the Dragon Radar. The boss (a merchant) doesn’t know what it is, but he accepts it, and gives the boy some money.

Meanwhile, that mysterious army has arrived in a house, and they scare the family members, demanding the Dragon Balls. The family doesn’t know what Dragon Balls are, so the army men begin to search the house.

Meanwhile, the thief boy is eating, when Goku finds him and demands to know where the Dragon Radar is. The boy is scared, and he tells Goku that it is at the merchant’s shop. Goku asks what a merchant is.

Back at the merchant’s shop, Pilaf and Mai have arrived. Pilaf asks how he looks in a crown, and Mai says that he looks great. The merchant walks up, and tells Pilaf about how valuable the crown is. Pilaf says that the jewels look cheap, so the merchant says he will get Pilaf something better. The merchant says Pilaf looks very noble, which flatters Pilaf, who begins to lie and brag about how “royal” he is. The merchant brings out a Dragon Ball (with 4 stars), and offers it to Pilaf. Pilaf is SURPRISED, and he hands over a HUGE wad of money to the merchant, and leaves, thinking that getting the other Dragon Balls should be just as easy. Outside, Goku runs up and finds the Dragon Radar. Pilaf and Mai exit the shop, and they are both surprised to see each other. Goku asks what Pilaf has, and he answers, “A Dragon Ball.” Pilaf and Mai walk away. Goku asks how many stars it has, and Pilaf answers that it has 4. Goku gets mad, and runs after them, wanting the Dragon Ball.  Pilaf and Mai are running for their lives. They leap onto their ship (looks like the Death Star from Star Wars with a few extras and more detail), and take off. The turrets of the ship, shoot at Goku, who frantically dodges the bullets.

Back in the merchant’s shop, the mysterious army has arrived, and they demand

the Dragon Ball. The merchant says he has one, and he climbs up a ladder and

secretly opens a box of SEVERAL 4 STAR DRAGON BALLS?!? The merchant hands the

Dragon Ball to the muscular man of the army. The muscle man drops the “Dragon Ball,” and it shatters. The man is mad for being fooled, and he takes out his gun and shoots the merchant. Above the store, the gun shots startle a bird, which grabs the 5 star Dragon Ball (which was in its nest) and flies off.

In Pilaf’s ship, his fake Dragon Ball has also shattered, and he realizes that the Dragon Ball that their Dragon Radar picked up is moving away from them, which Goku, outside on Kintoun, also notices. The episode ends.
