Yamcha’s Skillful Defense – Frieza Saga
Uncommon - #59
Energy Combat

Power: Stops a physical or energy attack. Remove from the game after use.

Funny how this card is actually one of the best cards in the game. Or it used to be. But it is still good regardless. This is one of the few “unSphereable” omni-blocks, meaning it can’t be Trunks Energy Sphered and it can stop both physical and energy attacks. It can’t stop focused, but that doesn’t matter too much with a good block like this. If you can’t find a good block, this one is by far one of the ones I’d throw in; others would be Goku’s Flight and Goku’s Super Saiyan Blast, which can do the same thing. Flight has now taken the place of the other two as of late.

The fact that it is Energy Combat is what makes it a good card. It was used widely in Namekian, and I would still run it in many versions. It can be searched out with Namekian Strike and Namekian Energy Focus, and other cards like Orange Uppercut as well. When Cosmic Backlash was still in standard, people ran this with GSSB so that if Krillin’s Solar Flare was played and successful, there would still be YSD or GSSB that could show up and stop the Cosmic Backlash. There are just very few good Energy Combat physical blocks.

This definitely should see play in Tuff Enuff just so you can stave off Backlash, which is still decent.

There isn’t much of a difference between this and GSSB, but GSSB can actually be used with Yamcha the Amazing but can’t be played if Tien’s Power Burst was successful. Thus, you can argue either way. This is one of Yamcha’s good named cards, while Goku has a wealth of them, like Goku’s Flight, with is by far much better for Goku, except for the lone fact one is physical combat and one is energy. Then again, I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t run both.

Standard: 3.3 out of 5.0 (powerful and versitale omni-block) Tuff Enuff: 4.1 out of 5.0 (needed to stave off Backlash)
Sealed: 3.7 out of 5.0 (omni-blocks are powerful in this format regardless) ~matthewlow

Yamcha's Skillful Defense - Frieza Saga

A nice uncommon that was and still is useful in some decks. It was pretty much a goku's super saiyan blast in frieza saga. Dunno why they made a rare and an uncommon that did almost the same thing. Anyway, its an okay card though fusion saga did give us goku's flight which is a little bit better since it can raise either players anger by 1 and its a physical combat card so it can stop Orange Energy Discharge. Plus if its used by goku it goes back into the deck which isnt to bad for a common. But it goes by how you build your deck in the end.

Wednesday - Yamcha's Skillful Defense

Another Omni-Block, the thing thats special about this one is that it isn't a combat card, so it can't be sphered..thats about all there is to say about it..

Standard: 3.5
Tuff Enuff: 3.8

Yamcha's Skillful Defense, #59 from Frieza Saga

Power: Stops a physical or energy attack. Remove from the game after use.

There is only one interesting thing with this card; and that is that it is
an energy combat card. I am pretty sure that this is the only energy combat card that stops both physicals and energies; while most of them are either physical combat or combat. If you want to put an omni block in your deck, first use Goku's Flight. This card is alright, but there are much better things out there.
