DBZ CCG Card of the Day

Broly, Level 1

Majin Buu Saga

Reviewed 10.21.2003

Avg. Standard Rating: 3.50
Avg. TE: Rating: 3.45

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating.

AJC468 Broly Stage 1:

One of the first things you notice about Broly's first stage is his low power level. This can be extremely useful for getting double power rule against a lot of different MP's, plus after gaining 1 anger (2 vs Goku) you will not be there long anyway. The main point of this broly stage is to serve as a quick boost to level 2, and ultimately to his powerful level 3. Broly also receives a large power level increase between levels, allowing him to go from a low power level to a high one very quickly. Although slighty dated in power level, Broly still is a force to be reckoned with. His level 1 serves a significant purpose, racing to level 3 to beat the crap out of your opponent ;).

Standard: 3.5 (racing to level 3 = MPPV against some decks/beatdown)

TE: 3.5 (racing to level 3 = nice beatdown)

Broly Level 1 from the Broly Subset

Constant Combat Power: When you perform an attack, raise your anger 1 level. If Goku is in play, raise your anger 2 levels instead.

This power by itself isn't that good; first you have to have good levels
above that, which in Broly's case, he does. The main purpose of this level 1 is to get to level 2, which it is good at, and really there is nothing more
to say for just the level 1. It can raise yuor anger for every attack you
perform, so you should get to level two within 1-2 combats. This level is
good in both anger decks and in the regular Saiyan Broly decks.

Ratings:

Standard - 3/5

Tuff Enuff - 3/5

Sealed Deck - 2.5/5 (you probably aren't going to get level 1-3 of Broly in
sealed deck, but if you do, USE HIM! he gains anger very fast! Otherwise he is just an ally)

Broly (Lv.1) - Constant Combat Power: When you use an attack to raise your anger level, increase that amount by 1. If Goku is in play, increase it by 2 instead.
Ah Broly! Finally I can give a bias and partial review. No question he's the MAN! This Power makes great use to a Saiyan Deck. In today's environment, you need a quick start. Here you get it. Anger up to level 2 to get a modifier, or an Attack. Which is good. Then again, his level 3 is better. Anyway, I tried a Red Anger deck w/ this guy, worked out well, except I forgot Red Escape (D'oh!), w/ Paragus = BROKEN! Gain a level, keep it.
I've also experimented w/ a Saiyan Broly deck in Tuff Enuff. It's good, but when it comes to Majin Buu (which I played in TF @ Worlds), Buu almost always has a 75% shot of an overkill (Which I also did to Saiyan Broly @ Worlds ^_^). This Level is meant for quick use, and if you stay here too long, you're not gonna win.
Standard:  3.5/5
Tuff Enuff:  3.5/5

Personality

Power: Constant Combat Power: When you perform an attack, raise your anger 1 level. If Goku is in play, raise your anger 2 levels instead.

There’s not a ton to say about this but use this Broly 1. That is if you plan on attacking. And if you don’t plan on attacking with Broly then why are you playing as him?

Broly works on escalating that anger to get to bigger and better powers and power levels to complement the anger/physical beatdown with the Saiyan Style. This Level 1 is amazing seeing that being able to gain an anger with every attack can easily mean you level on turn one. Getting to level 2 with another attack can help at the higher power level, and a speedy 1st level anger can easily be translated to a quick anger victory.

The only problem with Broly is you generally have to play him in Saiyan to gain his full potential. I’ve seen some wacked out Red versions using Paragus and Red Escape, and while this level works extremely well with Red anger, anything after level 2 doesn’t.

Being able to have a net 5 anger in your first two turns is quite easy if you pack some anger into your deck in the first place. Don’t forget to do that because you want to get to that nasty level 3. And possibly win too.

He has a somewhat low power level, and that’s actually for the very best. Reason is he can start first, and starting first in physical beatdown can help lock down your opponent in the early game, especially with them starting at 2 stages. Broly’s ability to jump a level quickly helps immensely with the base damage problem.

Don’t forget that this Broly is an amazing ally in anger decks as your opponent will be scared to knock you own only to see you gain a level from Broly’s ability to heighten that anger gain, and then you go to full again to drive physical beatdown nuts.

Standard: 4.0 out of 5.0 (quick, swift, good)
Tuff Enuff: 3.8 out of 5.0 (can’t win by anger, and you can Clash/AYTE to gain levels, but hey, speed is still good)
Sealed: 4.5 out of 5.0 (ally = good)
