Hello Pojo Fans,

Despia, Theater of the Branded is your Despia Field Spell and one of the better spells to search within the archetype with Aluber.

During your Main Phase (either one) you can use Theater to perform a Fusion Summon of a Level 8 or higher. Monsters can be used from the hand or on the field which is standard for monst Fusion Spells, but it’s a good thing this card didn’t have a restriction regarding where you can use fusion materials. While the archetype plays many spells that can perform a Fusion Summon, Theater can do it each turn.

Unlike those other spells though, Theater can replace a non-Fusion Fairy monster with a Level 8 or higher Fusion Monster in your graveyard when the non-Fusion Fairy is destroyed by your opponent. All Despia Main Deck monsters meet that criteria. You are replacing your weaker Despia monsters with bigger Fusion Monsters as long as you have one in the graveyard and can protect Theater. The different number of Fusion Monsters this archetype can summon back over and over is long, but your two Despia Fusion Monsters are high on the list: Despian Proskenion being able to Special Summon an Extra Deck monster from your opponents grave, and Despian Quaeritis which we’ll review on Friday.

Fun to note that because it only specifies Level 8 or higher for the Fusion Summon, Theater can be slipped into any Fusion-centric archetype that can meet that requirement.

Of course we got to get to at least one Branded Spell/Trap this week, so let’s look at the Field Spell that’s key to Despia’s playstyle: Despia, Theater of the Branded.

Theater is a Field Spell that lets you Fusion Summon a Level 8 or higher Fusion during your Main Phase by using monsters in hand or on the field as material. Being any Fusion is nice, just with the Level restriction of course, so you’re open to a little bit more experimentation with Despia. This basically being a more searchable Fusion Gate is pretty nice, also without banishing the monsters no matter what as well, so plus. If a face-up non-Fusion monster you control leaves the field by an opponent’s card effect or is destroyed in battle, you can target and revive any Level 8 or higher Fusion in your graveyard. A good revival effect replacing a monster you lose for something most likely bigger. Hard once per turn on each effect is fine. This is a really good Field Spell for the Despia archetype so we don’t have to rely on Polymerization. The ability to summon any Level 8 or higher Fusion does allow for Shaddoll or Darklord variants like I mentioned yesterday. Any Despia variant is likely to not go without this.

Midweek brings us a Field Magic in-Despia, Theater of the Branded (how delicious).  So for a not so common ability on a Field card, this acts as a Fusion but specifically so for a Level 8 or above, and only during your Main Phase.  Normal Fusion requirement for where they come from, so no tricks or special gimmicks involved, and I like that very much.  If a face-up, Fairy type (NON-Fusion) Monster of yours leaves the Field, via opponent’s Card Effect or as a result of Battle, you can Target and Special Summon a Level 8 or above Fusion from your Graveyard.  Both Effects here are appropriately Once per Turn.  This thing is VERY good, and better for you each Turn you can keep it on the Field, but protecting this will be vital.  Given the ease of the first Effect, can and should drop you a Fusion every Turn, as well as about any way your opponent decides to rid your Monsters from the Field will get you something back from the Grave as well…as good as this is, as said, it’s only as good as you protect it  Sure, one Turn could net you two Fusions, depending on the game state, but the use/abuse potential here is insane.

Rating:  4/5

Art:  3.5/5  This is still fun, but it’s lackluster compared to our Monsters we’ve covered so far.

Continuing Despia week is Despia, Theater of the Branded, a field spell that also functions as the main method of fusion for the Despia archetype. Since it is a Branded card, you can search it with Aluber the Jester of Despia, or Terraforming if you so choose. The first effect allows you to fusion summon a level 8 or higher fusion monster using monsters on your hand or field, not just Despia monsters, so any archetype with high-level fusions can theoretically make use of this, one of which I’ll get to later.

The second effect occurs when a non-fusion Fairy is removed from the field by an opponent’s effect or destroyed by battle (that is, Aluber the Jester of Despia or Dramaturge of Despia), allowing you to revive a level 8 or higher fusion monster in your graveyard. The obvious application of this is reviving Despian Proskenion or Despian Quaeritis after Dramaturge or Aluber are destroyed by your opponent, though this likely won’t come up too often if the opponent simply destroys the non-fusion guys first. This effect has some synergy with the Darklord archetype, which also features level 8 or higher fusion monsters and fairy monsters, so there is some synergy if you wish to combine the two. Great card for Despia and decent card to be splashed into other decks if you find yourself wanting to fuse a lot.
