Hello Pojo Fans,

Dark Templar @Ignister isn’t too old of a card, only half a decade, but he’s a big part of the @Ignister archetype and is our Throwback Thursday choice.

Link-3 needing different names for each monster used, Dark Templar @Ignister is primarily for @Ignister, with its best work done within the archetype. Special Summoning a monster to one of its three zones pointing downward to get up to two @Ignister Level 4 or lower monster Special Summons from the grave essentially replaces the materials used to summon him. Likely, you’ll have used at least one @Ignister monster to summon Dark Templar @Ignister, and while the effects are negated, that is still up to three monsters total on board alongside Dark Templar @Ignister. The 2300ATK is a balance to this effect, as well as the 2300 theme of the A.I. cards. To get the most out of Dark Templar @Ignister, you’ll likely have to link climb, but will get to use up to three @Ignister Main Deck monsters in the process at least to eventually get to Dark Templar @Ignister. Then, it’s one Special Summon to a zone and you’ve got your +2, or three if you Link Summon Dark Infant @Ignister and move it sideways to open up the zone it occupies to net three @Ignister summons from the grave. They don’t have to be Main Deck @Ignister monsters either, so climbing more into a potential Link-6 isn’t out of the question.

Free Cyberse Special Summon from the grave when Dark Templar @Ignister destroys a monster through battle is alright, but how often are you destroying something with this card’s 2300ATK? You would have to halt your opponent’s turn, leaving them with something weaker on the board, and that isn’t out of the question.

Dark Templar @Ignister has a lot going for it within the archetype. Through link climbing you can get up to three targets easily into the grave for a Special Summon that sets up a Link-6 in the archetype, or you could go for another Link Monster as long as you aren’t locked into Cyberse only (though there’s some good Cyberse Link Monsters). Effect negation of monsters Special Summoned through this card’s effect is more than fair, considering it isn’t a one time only effect and can be triggered during your opponent’s turn, thus walling you up. Even without the final effect seeing play, Dark Templar @Ignister is still instrumental to the archetype and more-so to summoning tomorrow’s card or The Arrival Cyberse @Ignister.

Throwback Thursday this week is the @Ignister Link you use to hyper-extend all your plays: Dark Templar @Ignister.

Dark Templar is a Link-3 DARK Cyberse with 2300 ATK and all three arrows in a downwards direction. Fine ATK, DARK Cyberse is great, arrows are great. Materials are any 3 monsters with different names, which Cyberse doesn’t struggle to get monsters on the field to make a Link-3 with 3 monsters if they got to. If a monster(s) is summoned to a zone this card points to, you can revive as many Level 4 or lower @Ignister monsters from your graveyard as possible to the zones this card points to, but their effects are negated. So immediately you get to revive 2 monsters with this unless you are able to use the effect of Dark Infant to move zones so you can clear the way for a 3rd monster to be revived. This makes summoning a Link-5 or Link-6 monster super simple. Summoning a copy of The Arrival Cyberse @Ignister with 4 materials should be achievable with this, getting a 4000 ATK monster that’s unaffected by other effects, but now we got many more ways to get around protection even to that level in the case something like that was meta again, so you might take a different path to make a more versatile end board to handle multiple threats. If this destroys a monster by battle, you also get to revive a Cyberse monster from the graveyard, which is nice if you were to battle with this monster, but it’ll likely be Link-fodder before battle. HOPT on both effects. Dark Templar is very important to @Ignister since reviving multiple monsters should do a lot for making a lot more Link Monsters. Ignister A.I.Land at the bare minimum should trigger this as well, along with other @Ignister extenders like Backup, Doshin, and Hiyari. Play a copy in @Ignister to hopefully get to the best end board possible for the Deck.

Throwback Thursday brings us Ai’s ace monster throughout the final season of Vrains, Dark Templar @Ignister. Like its counterpart, Decode Talker, it’s a Link 3 DARK Cyberse Link monster, though this time it has down, down left, and down right arrows in addition to a more strict summoning requirement of 3 monsters with different names.

Unlike its anime counterpart, Dark Templar doesn’t have battle protection against monsters with the same attack stat, but who needs that? Dark Templar comes with 2 hard once per turn effects, the first being the most important one by far– it triggers if any monster is Special Summoned to a zone that Dark Templar points to, letting you Special Summon as many level 4 or lower @Ignister monsters as possible from your Graveyard to the other zones that Dark Templar points to, though with their effects negated. Realistically, it’ll only be 2 monsters because a zone will be hogged by the monster you just summoned (usually something from Ignister A.I.Land), but that’ll be more than enough since the purpose of this effect is to instantly set up a Link climb into The Arrival Cyberse @Ignister. With the new support, however, it might be more convenient to just summon the new @Ignister boss monster instead, which doesn’t have protection but it does come with much stronger follow-up and a built-in omni negate rather than relying on Danmari @Ignister. Hilariously, this is one of the few effects that specifies it can trigger even during the Damage Step, and that’s because of Dark Templar’s other (considerably less useful) effect, triggering when it destroys any monster by battle to Special Summon any Cyberse monster from your Graveyard. This is meant to trigger the first effect and set up Arrival Cyberse during Main Phase 2, but it goes without saying that waiting for Dark Templar to destroy something to continue your combo is not acceptable in the modern game. On the bright side, it could be useful after turn 1, but considering how adept Cyberse decks are at swarming, I doubt you’ll need it. Outside of @Ignister, it’s hard to justify summoning Dark Templar when it’s such a giant choke point and you have to run more @Ignister names to make the most of it, so you’ll be sticking to it in actual @Ignister decks.

+Powerful extending effect that allows easy climbing into high-Link monsters
+Can help rebuild boards in a pinch
-Very vulnerable to common Hand Traps
-Requires setup to use effectively and can’t trigger on its own without battling
