Dakki, the Graceful Mayakashi
– #HISU-EN027

You can only control 1 “Dakki, the Graceful Mayakashi”. When a “Mayakashi” monster(s) is Special Summoned to your field from the Extra Deck, while this card is in the GY (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card. You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck the turn you activate this effect, except “Mayakashi” monsters.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Mayakashi week gets started on Pojo with the most important of the Mayakashi monsters, Dakki, the Graceful Mayakashi.

This Tuner is what makes the deck go. Level 2 is perfect for climbing up the ladder of Synchro monsters involved with this archetype, as well as several of the other Zombie-based Synchro monsters. Dakki will continuously Special Summon herself from the grave as long as you keep Special Summoning from your Extra Deck. You get locked into the Mayakashi archetype for Special Summoning when you activate her effect, but that’s okay, you are likely starting the long chain of going up the ladder of their Synchro monsters. If you go for a different Synchro monster using her as the Tuner, you won’t get her Special Summon effect until you go for a Mayakashi monster in your Extra Deck. This is a great balance otherwise Dakki could’ve been a Level Eater of sorts with constant Special Summoning. Level 2 is perfect for Dakki, as every Mayakashi Synchro is odd numbered and can help climb up to the highest levels. Dakki and a Level 1 make 3 for the first Synchro and it is off to the races. You can even use her as part of their Link Monster:Yuki-Onna to open up more slots for your Synchro Monsters. Get Dakki into the grave somehow and get a Mayakashi Extra Deck monster onto the field and you are set. If they stop Dakki, you are in trouble, but if they don’t, you should be able to do whatever you want.

Bill saw I suggested a Mayakashi and Prank-Kids week during our Nephthys reviews and gave me the go ahead and get those two weeks off, so I’m going to start off with the Mayakashi week with the bread and butter of the deck: Dakki, the Graceful Mayakashi.

Dakki is a Level 2 FIRE Zombie Tuner with 1000 ATK and 0 DEF. ATK and DEF is low, but it is Level 2 and a Tuner so you don’t expect to keep this without going for a Synchro, Zombie is a great type and FIRE doesn’t have the best support. You can only control 1 Dakki, so that can get a bit restricting sometimes. When a Mayakashi monster is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck while this card is in the GY, you can revive this from the GY but for the rest of the turn you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck except Mayakashi monsters. Considering this is a Tuner, you’ll use this to Synchro Summon a Mayakashi, then you can revive this and use it and your new Synchro to Synchro Summon a bigger Synchro. This helps get Mayakashi to their highest level Syncrho, which is their Level 11, and then you can use that and Dakki to Link Summon their Link Monster and all the Mayakashis will be in the GY ready to be revived when the specific monster is destroyed. Dakki gets the Extra Deck plays going once you get the non-Tuner monster, which all the Mayakashi non-Tuners will get you to your Tuners with great ease. If you are playing Mayakashi in any way, throw in two or three copies since the deck can get to it easily, but you don’t want to lose all your copies to where you can’t really make use of them.

Austin and I tend to work pretty well off each other…if I see in a review he wants us to cover something and we have the free time (we usually do) I try to bring that theme(s) into the next week(s).  I might have gone for Prank Kids first, but that’s just me, so I’m glad to see these themes he wanted and we’ve neglected to get to are getting some light.

Anyway, here we are in Mayakashi week, and note right away Dakki is a Tuner.  I feel Synchros despite attempting to make a comeback in the game are still more ignored than not.  Zombie has an insane amount of support, even if Fire isn’t the most helpful with that.  1000 attack isn’t great but also not bad for a Level 2 Monster…better than her 0 defense.

So, you can only control one Dakki, and she can Special Summon herself from the Graveyard when you Special Summon a Mayakashi from your Extra Deck (save if this were to happen during the Damage Step) so obviously if you have one on the Field, the one in your Graveyard won’t be able to come back…but you might not need to play more than one anyway.

Two would probably be fine though, just in case something were to happen to one.  You’re also prevented from Special Summoning outside the core theme here if Dakki is Special Summoned via that ability, but that’s hardly a restriction, and circles back to her use in the Deck, and as mentioned, as a Tuner as well.  Bringing her back when bringing out one Monsters should all but guarantee you get a second!

Rating:  4/5  Obviously, I’d like a bit more strength, but Level 2, and it balances the potential big play(s) she can make.

Art:  5/5  I think we are supposed to associate bright, cool colors (the purple and pink for instance) in anime with thinks like grace.  Very pretty picture
