Cyberse Sage – #CYAC-EN033

You can Ritual Summon this card with “Cynet Ritual”. During your Main Phase: You can Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, by banishing materials mentioned on it from your field or GY, including a Cyberse monster. If this card is sent to the GY as Synchro Material: You can target 1 Cyberse monster or 1 Ritual Spell in your GY; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of “Cyberse Sage” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Cyberse Sage is a rarely seen Ritual Cyberse monster.

When it comes to lower level Ritual Monsters you want the spell for their summon to include the text “equal or more” when concerning the level amount to Ritual Summon them. In this case, thankfully, you can exceed the level needed, so there’s no need to struggle to set up a Level 1 to be used for Cyberse Sage.

This small Ritual Monster allows you to banish for a Fusion Summon from your field or grave, though you need to use a Cyberse monster as well. This does make Fusion Summoning a little easier by including the graveyard, however needing to summon Cyberse Sage takes away the added ease. Sage is a Tuner as well, and if used as a material for a Synchro Summon, Sage will get you her Ritual Spell back or a Cyberse monster from the grave to the hand.

With all that included, you’d likely see Cyberse Sage used in a deck that does just that: Fusion or Synchro Summon Cyberse monsters. There are 10 of those (five Fusion, five Cyberse) Not sure you’d like to include Sage and the Ritual Spell into something like Salamangreats though, even if the Ritual Spell can be banished alongside Sage to summon two Level 4 Cyberse Tokens. Cyberse Desavewurm (tomorrow’s CoTD), Diplexer Chimera, and Earth Golem @ Ignister are Fusion Monsters that don’t require you to summon Sage to be useful. The recycle effect of Sage for a Ritual Spell or Cyberse Monster when used for a Synchro Summon is good to get a Cyberse Monster back. You likely are banishing your Ritual Spell for those tokens that was previously mentioned.

I’m hesitant to add a Ritual Monster into a non-Ritual archetype or strategy that may not run cards geared around Ritual Summons, but Cyberse Sage does have a lot going for her. Easily summoned, the Ritual Spell can supply tokens through banishing itself and a Ritual Monster, can be a useful Synchro Summon material to recycle a Cyberse monster or a Ritual Spell, and (while on the field) can aid in Fusion Summons. It is all about if you have the space to use her within your Cyberse strategy.

Doubling down on using all of the summoning mechanics, this wave of Firewall support gives us Cyberse Sage, a level 1 DARK Cyberse Ritual Tuner monster. This is the second ever Ritual Tuner, the first being Magikey Mechmusket – Batosbuster, and if you’re familiar with how Firewall bosses work, it’ll be obvious why. Cyberse Sage is astoundingly searchable, with both Preparation of Rites and Cynet Mining, though you won’t need to run Prep since Cyberse Witch by itself will grab both Sage and Cynet Ritual all in one swoop. Predictably, it has a horrendous 0 attack and defense, solidifying its purpose as a combo piece.

Sage’s recommended Ritual Spell is Cynet Ritual, which you can grab with Firewall Phantom if you don’t use Cyberse Witch (though you really should). Sage has two hard once per turn effects, the first Fusion Summoning any Fusion monster by banishing the appropriate materials from your field or Graveyard. While it’s tempting to go for tomorrow’s card using Sage and Cyberse Witch, it’d be more efficient to hold off to take advantage of the second effect, which triggers if Sage is sent to the Graveyard as a Synchro material, recycling any Cyberse monster or Ritual Spell in your Graveyard. Frankly, there’s no real reason to recycle a Ritual Spell, but grabbing a free Cyberse monster back is great, especially if you’re making tomorrow’s card, which can immediately summon that monster you just recycled. Sage is a fantastic combo piece only held back by being a Ritual monster, and while Witch helps a lot with accessibility, it’ll likely be limited to Firewall decks considering there are stronger generic Cyberse combo enablers out there without the Extra Deck spam gimmick.

Next up for Cyberse week, we got a brand new Ritual for them to go into if Cyberse Magician isn’t good enough: Cyberse Sage.

Cyberse Sage is a Level 1 DARK Cyberse Ritual Tuner with 0 ATK and DEF. Don’t expect high stats on a Level 1, DARK and Cyberse are great, and being a Level 1 Tuner is good, even if on a Ritual. You can Ritual Summon this with Cynet Ritual, the generic Cyberse Ritual Spell. During your Main Phase, you can Fusion Summon any Fusion Monster by banishing its materials from your field or graveyard, including a Cyberse monster. So basically Fusions that could use a Cyberse monster as material. There’s several generic Fusions, but I assume you’ll stick to the Cyberse ones anyways since there are a couple you could go into. It’s just weird for the Ritual Tuner to have a Fusion Summoning effect, but at least it can be a Miracle Fusion. The second effect triggers if this is sent to the graveyard as Synchro Material, letting you target a Cyberse monster or any Ritual Spell in your graveyard and add it to your hand. Good recovery for your Cyberse monsters mainly to help extend your plays, or get back that Cynet Ritual if you want to summon more Cyberse Ritual Monsters I guess. Hard once per turn on each effect, of course. Cyberse Sage is a weird card since you do need to have it, the Ritual Spell, and any monster with a Level really to use it, but it’s a free Fusion Summon on the field and it recovers cards when used as Synchro Material, all likely to get more monsters of different summoning mechanics in the grave for your Cyberse Deck. It’s a fine card, the effects are good, just takes a few of your cards to summon unless you meet the requirements to use monsters in the graveyard for Cynet Ritual.
