Hello Pojo Fans,

Cyberdark Wurm is the first Cyberdark support we’ve seen in quite a bit and begins our week.

Unlike the other Cyberdark monsters, Wurm will treat itself as “Cyber Dragon” while on the field and in the graveyard, giving you another target for that Cyber Dragon support (and there is a lot). The stat line for a Level 5 shouldn’t look like that unless they’ve got a good effect to balance it out. Can be an extender if you send a Cyber Dragon to the grave from hand or Deck. One would ask why you would because you are losing out on ATK with Wurm having only 800, but it’s all about the Spell/Trap search.

A free Cyber Spell/Trap back from the grave in addition to still having “Cyber Dragon” on the field. Cyber Eternal can give you a Cyber Fusion Monster while ignoring summoning conditions. Much easier way to summon Cyberdark Dragon or Cyberdarkness Dragon than their traditional means. Most of the Cyber Fusion Monsters are good targets, aside from the ones that need you to send materials on the field to increase their ATK/DEF. Cyber Emergency is a good way to get one of the bigger LIGHT Machine monsters that cannot be Normal Summoned/Set to the hand, and has a built-in protection against negation. And Cyber Revsystem can get you a Cyber Dragon Special Summon from the grave with added protection.

It being treated as a Cyber Dragon while on the field and graveyard does make the Fusion Summoning for Cyberdarkness Dragon and Cyberdark Dragon difficult, but its ability to now open up the archetype to Cyber Dragon support and Fusion and Link Monsters is a nice trade. It feels more like a Cyber Dragon support card more than a Cyberdark card honestly.

More cards this week, this time to cover the cards to support the Tactical Try Decks that the TCG only gets to play in Master Duel, starting with a new Cyber Dragon card with Cyberdark Wurm.

Cyberdark Wurm is a Level 5 DARK Machine with 800 ATK and 2100 DEF. Stats aren’t that impressive, but a DARK Machine will always be great. This card’s name becomes Cyber Dragon while on the field or in the graveyard, giving the Deck yet another Cyber Dragon name. If this card is in your hand or graveyard and you have another Machine Cyber monster on your field or in your graveyard, you can send a Cyber Dragon monster from the Deck to the graveyard to summon this monster and then you can add a Cyber Spell/Trap from your graveyard to your hand. So now we have Mathmech Circular for Cyber Dragons, which gives you a way to put Herz in the graveyard to search or add back a Cyber Dragon while also recovering your Cyber backrow, most likely Cyber Emergency since it’s your searcher. Filling the graveyard should help with Cyberdark Chimera searching Power Bond to make a Chimeratech Rampage Dragon to OTK the opponent, and at worst you got a Level 5 Machine with this to summon Cyber Dragon Nova and therefore Cyber Dragon Infinity. Once per Duel clause on this effect, since a game with Cyber Dragons shouldn’t hopefully last long with how much damage output they have. It’s good support for Cyber Dragon with its graveyard setup, backrow recovery, and a body on the field. It’s easy to search in the Deck with all the consistency cards they have, and with the once per Duel, you’d only want to play 1, but it doesn’t take away that this is great support.

Art: 4/5 Modern Cyberdarks seem to just be massive conglomerations of parts to make a cool looking Machine monster.

We’re still not at dedicated archetype coverage yet?! In any case, this week we’re covering the two-off support for the first wave of Tactical Try archetypes (which Jerome has graciously denied importing, for whatever reason), starting with Cyberdark Wurm, which debuted in Alliance Insight alongside Cyber Jormungardr– I’m a bit disappointed we’re not covering Jormungardr this time around, but that’s life! Cyberdark Wurm is a level 5 DARK Machine, as expected of a Cyberdark; while you can easily search it with Cyberdark Realm or Cyberdark Cannon, you’ll usually want to be searching Cyberdark Chimera instead and using it to send Wurm to the Graveyard for reasons that will be very clear. Plus, as a level 5 Machine, it’s ripe material for Cyber Dragon Nova so that you can Rank Up into Cyber Dragon Infinity. Wurm comes with a horrendous 800 attack but makes up for it with 2100 defense, which isn’t actually that great, but having 2100 in its statline makes it a valid target for Cyber Dragon Nachster.

As if having 2100 defense wasn’t enough, Wurm will take Cyber Dragon’s name while on the field and in the Graveyard, so in some combo lines you can revive it with Nova and use it as Fusion material for your various Fusions. Convenient, isn’t it? Wurm has a single once per duel effect that can only be used if you have a Cyber Machine monster on your field or in your Graveyard, letting you Special Summon Wurm from your hand or Graveyard by sending a Cyber Dragon monster from your hand or deck to the Graveyard. On top of that, you’ll be able to recycle a Cyber Spell or Trap from your Graveyard back to your hand. Konami has seen a slight uptick in printing once per duel effects, and in this case I’d say it’s pretty justified; you’re getting a mill, a level 5 body for Nova, and a recycle– simply put, that’s insane card advantage! Of course, it’s also balanced out by the fact Wurm can’t just casually summon itself on its own, which is why you’ll be relying on Chimera to bring it out. You have quite a lot of options for both depending on the combo route you want to go for. Cyber Dragon Herz gives the most immediate benefit since you’ll be able to search Cyber Dragon Core or Nachster, though in some combo lines you might have to directly send Nachster or Jormungardr to revive them later with Nova. Ironically, the backrow recycle isn’t too important– you’ll be retrieving Cyber Emergency or Cyberdark Realm as discard fodder for either Chimera to get Power Bond, or for Clockwork Night to search Therions “King” Regulus. Wurm takes Cyber Dragon in a completely new direction as the deck’s combo potential has exploded; new combo lines can end on Regulus and not just 1 but 2 Cyber Dragon Infinities. It’s held back by being very limited on its own and being once per duel, but frankly it’s worth it for a card this jacked. You’ll only ever need 1 so don’t even think about playing more than that unless you have the psychic ability to always open Cyber Dragon Nachster with it.

+Monstrous effect that sends extenders, summons itself as a body, and recycles discard fodder
+Flexible as both an Xyz material and Fusion material
-Effect is only once per duel
-Practically useless by itself

Advanced: 4.25/5
Art: 3.75/5 Infernal Dragon finally got the Cyber treatment.

Addendum: Cyber Jormungardr’s art is a 4.75/5. Utterly immaculate!
